As a tool, what do guns do?

An asshole without a gun is nowhere as concerning as one with a gun.

Also, as an argument in favour of guns, that one fails a bit hard... Maybe it's a good theme for a Christmas action movie? ...

A *****LAW ABIDING***** CPL holder would not risk it.

A CPL holder that wants to turn to a life of crime would.

Nobody would know any better because it would be concealed and how many people would prioritize their personal safety and take the legal risk?

Imagine a city load of assholes all packing heat and out doing their Christmas shopping - then there's a gun shot - and everyone draws and starts blasting at everyone with a gun drawn until they are either hit, or out of ammo.

The US Armed forces are drilled in firearm use, yet friendly fire is still a thing.

... and the police there keep shooting the wrong people, the unarmed, and sometimes the entirely innocent who aren't resisting. Swatting is also a thing, and there have been subsequent firearm fatalities.

... and what about all those hunters that shoot someone that they misidentify as game?

But, considering how 'protective' the number of armed civilians out and about in the US are supposed to be, a quick look at the total number of gun fatalities there, happening all the time, shows that no-one is being protected.

Perhaps you are just ignoring all the constant reports of the failures and mistakes of everyone in regard to firearms, including those of 'good guy' shooters? 'Cause they are in the news enough (though perhaps not in the media organizations where the NRA has financial input).

That sort of thing does actually seem to be frequent in your country. And it's full of absolute fruitcake nutters. Armed ones. A rational person might be a bit concerned.

I have a CPL...Concealed Pistol License. 

I would never carry my gun in a gun free zone.

Yeah maybe nobody would know but if you are caught, you lose your License and could never get another one.

In my opinion, no law abiding CPL holder would risk it.

And if you aren't carrying it when out and about in non-'gun free' zones, then what's the point of concealed carry?

Sounds to me like carrying a gun limits your freedom of movement, because you have to have somewhere safe to store it, or otherwise you'd have to be excluded from moving through a gun free zone where anyone without a gun can move freely?

I've been reading where people don't see the logic in gun free zones because then if only criminals with evil intent will enter with a firearm then everyone within that zone is then a 'soft target' and unarmed with no way to protect themselves. I really don't believe a gun toting father would be okay with his child becoming a 'soft target' say within a school gun free zone. It doesn't make sense to me.

The authorities are asking the public for help in finding the shooter. Scary stuff with someone like that roaming around free.
