I've been reading where people don't see the logic in gun free zones because then if only criminals with evil intent will enter with a firearm then everyone within that zone is then a 'soft target' and unarmed with no way to protect themselves. I really don't believe a gun toting father would be okay with his child becoming a 'soft target' say within a school gun free zone. It doesn't make sense to me.

The authorities are asking the public for help in finding the shooter. Scary stuff with someone like that roaming around free.

Many mass shooters seem to be seeking to either commit suicide by cop, or they turn their own gun on themselves.

Are you really sure that the type of fruitcake that shoots people indiscriminantly, without apparent concern of the inevitability of how it will end for them, is that concerned about returned fire?

Perhaps gun free zones have a high density of people and are nearly everywhere, instead of shooters selecting them for their 'soft targets'?

I must admit, however, that the motivations to hurt people like that, don't seem to have the rationality sufficient for them to avoid self harm.

It looks like the shooter was that student Mustapha Khartough along with another accomplice. And he/she apparently targeted that room because of Ella Cook the conservative campus student leader. Shooting her multiple times.
   Was there a LGBQT motive. That would make more sense than an islamic motive. Jews were not targeted.
    They may be keeping quiet due to potential expanded investigations and not just due to incompetence of the local police force and Brown's security failures.  The FBI has to be in complete control now so they're being careful. They can't afford a screw up and are probably still struggling with the brain drain they had the last decade. 
   And Trump hasn't followed through on fixing things, in the FBI only pursuing a personal vendetta against those he feels crossed him. The deep state will run things as always, secretly,  andprotecting those secrets.

I'm fairly sure that gun controls even affect a lot of the bad guys, too.

I agree but there seems to be politicians and other people who believe it is a crime to fight back.. Thank goodness early humans were not that way or we would have become extinct as a species..

Yes, perhaps gun free zones have that attraction to mass shooters, that being a high density of people. I really don't understand the psychology of mass murderers where they want to kill as many people as they can. 

I hope the public can help them find this nutjob.

If the Brown University shooter is truly somehow connected to the MIT professor’s murder, the cops are going to have a lot of explaining to do considering they told everyone to just go back to normal cuz there was nothing to see.

Meanwhile, two law enforcement sources also tell CBS News that an arrest warrant has been issued for a suspect in the Brown University shooting.
Prior, multiple sources familiar with the investigation at Brown University told CBS News on Thursday that a person of interest has been identified in the deadly mass shooting. Law enforcement has identified a person, and a search for that individual is underway, the sources said. 
Nuno Loureiro, who taught plasma physics at MIT and led its Plasma Science and Fusion Center, was shot Monday at his home in Brookline, Massachusetts. He died at a nearby hospital the next day. Police are investigating his death as a homicide.
Two days earlier, two students were killed and nine more were wounded when a gunman opened fire Saturday afternoon inside a classroom on Brown University's campus in Providence, Rhode Island, authorities said. The shooting occurred in the school's Barus & Holley engineering building during final exams.
