Britain might lose the Falkland Islands
#71
Didn't work out last time :D
Despite the fact that Thatcher instructed the defense secretary to sell off half the navy just 6 months before the invasion.
Despite the fact that the CIA warned her that Argentinia was up to something.
Despite the fact that France had just sold them a bunch of jets & missiles.
Despite the bungling Navy mooring in the wrong place, not allowing the marines to disembark, & the ship got bombed a few hours later.
Despite the Argentine soldiers waving white flags & then machine-gunning anyone who stood up.
Despite the fact that we were not allowed to activate our missile defences without permission from whitehall, & another ship was bombed.

And we still won.

The saying from WW1 "Lions led by donkeys" is just as true now as it was then.

Any evidence for any of that?

Yes, i have about 60 hours of news reports, eyewitness accounts etc on video tapes.
I also have a freind who's father worked for the MOD, and he could not believe what was going on.
At the same time, we were sending 'foreign aid' in the form of 20 crates of single malt, to some warlord in Africa.
Apparently that was to encourage him to slaughter a neighbouring village because they kept attacking the Shell pipelines.

And I have friends that were actually there.

Good, then they can tell you, better than i can, what an absolute sht show it was. For both sides.

And yet here we are, 45 years later, and no-one seems to have learned anything.
Those who ignore history are bound to repeat it.

If you were to spout that at them, I'm sure they'd be more than happy to correct you.

I seriously doubt that Argentina can do anything other than whine.

We have just witnessed what bad losers they are

I had a uni lecturer who was there, I said to him "so you spent a few weeks on a rock drunk on scotch protecting some sheep".

I failed that unit... twice.
I was not here.

The shooting after white flags were raised are claimed have happened at Goose Green and a couple of other battles due to 'fog of war' scenario rather than deliberate intent - there's also claims that flag waving Argentinian troops machine gunned British troops w who were advancing to accept their surrender and two were killed. Apparentl one group of Argies were surrendering but the other group(s) wanted to keep fighting

There's a decent overview here on the legality here: The contemporary law of armed conflict
