Air India has said that the passengers on its flight AI171 included 169 Indian nationals, 53 British, seven Portuguese and one Canadian.

In a statement on X, Air India said:

Air India confirms that flight AI171, from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, was involved in an accident today after take off.

The flight, which departed from Ahmedabad at 1338 hrs, was carrying 242 passengers and crew members on board the Boeing 787-8 aircraft. Of these, 169 are Indian nationals, 53 are British nationals, one Canadian national and seven Portuguese nationals.

The injured are being taken to the nearest hospitals. We have also set up a dedicated passenger hotline number 1800 5691 444 to provide more information.

Air India is giving its full cooperation to the authorities investigating this incident.

A very sad and tragic accident.

There's a video of the crash, it's in the source I posted and all over the internet, but I won't post it out of respect for the victims.

Honestly, I hope, but I don't think anyone could have survived that. Plus, it fell in a residential area, so most probably, more lost souls.

Tragic and scary. RIP to the victims and I hope the survivors pull through.

Yeah, it could very well have been a terrorist bomb and the sooner they find out the better for all so they can improve their security.

Were the pilots Muslims? If so they might have done this on purpose, a bit like that crash over the Alps. No idea if Air India allow muslims to fly their planes.

I wonder how old that 787 was because it may have been one of the planes scheduled for a retrofit in 2025.

Early reports indicate that there were no survivors from the plane.

And approx. 150 casualties on the ground. Apparently, the plane dropped onto a doctors’ hostel.

It's going to take time to evaluate the aftermath of this crash.
