Age Verification; It's not about the children
#1
Flipping through YouTube between exercises at the gym, I came across this little video.

The whole push for age verification is being paid for by the ones that sell everyone's data. They have been selling it for quite some time. The customers now want a cleaner product. Currently it includes clankers, chatbots, and AI of all descriptions along with the human made data.  It seems AI runed it for them because they can't track what is real and what is fake anymore.

The customers will pay more for the human made data without all the other crap.

When you verify your age, you are proving you are human. It is all about the money.
I know too much and question everything.
Does anyone know the minimum safe distance of ignorance?
Did anyone ask the monkeys how much fun the barrel actually was?

Age verification for using a computer operating system has reach the Linux community.

Age Verification On Linux Is Worse Than We Thought

Quote:Overview of the California Age Verification LawThe Digital Age Assurance Act introduces a device-based age verification system designed to create safer digital environments for anyone under 18. Enforced by the California Attorney General, the law allows to impose civil penalties for non-compliance: up to $2,500 per affected child for negligent violations and $7,500 per affected child for intentional ones.
Taking effect on January 1, 2027, with a grace period for existing accounts until July 1, 2027, the law is designed to make it easier for parents to set up devices for their children and to ensure that apps and platforms know the age of their users without collecting sensitive personal data, while creating a safer online experience for minors.
The law applies to a wide net over digital service providers that provide services to California users:
  • Operating System providers, like Apple’s iOS, Google’s Android, Microsoft Windows, etc., must build age verification into device account.

I don't see how are they going to enforce that.

First, I doubt all operating system providers will have a new product ready in time that follows that law, and people can always use an older operating system.

But they also say that "there is no liability for actions of persons other than the primary user", so OS and app providers must follow the law but only the user is responsible? I don't get it.

Yes, that has thrown a wrench into the works. All those laws all over the world, many just being worked out. And it is all being pushed for by the data sellers.

There are the some wanting laws to force human verification and some wanting to look like they are doing something good. But the lawmakers mostly don't know what they are doing and who it will hurt.

They don't understand that the more personal information online, the more it is likely to be compromised. And the fact there will be a list of underage verified users somewhere is just making a shopping list for some.
