8 Planet Parade
#1
Just a heads up for everyone! A 7 planet sight for tonight, excluding Earth, which is also in alignment.

Quote:Seven planets in the solar system — Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune — will line up in the night sky Friday (Feb. 28) in an incredibly rare "planetary parade."
Although most of these planets have been visible in the night sky since January, Mercury will be joining the procession for just a few days, before Saturn gets lost in the sunset's glare in early March.
Five of these worlds will be easily visible to the unaided eye, but you will need a good telescope to see the full show, according to NASA.

I just treated myself to new binoculars with better magnification for star/planet gazing, but, as usual, I am predicting cloud cover.

oho! Thank you for the reminder!
Wife had mentioned but I forgot.

News says:The alignment isn't unusual, but the next similar alignment won't occur until late October 2028.

Friday for 20 to 30 minutes after dusk is the best time to view the five brightest planets — Venus, Jupiter, Mars, Mercury and Saturn — with the naked eye. You will also be able to see Uranus and Neptune with the use of a telescope.

Look up a half hour after sunset in your region. I will start looking south on the horizon for Mars then follow it along to the north, if I am lucky and it won't be cloudy.

I intend to look for something similar to Feb. 25th viewing.

Very cool!

Hopefully it clears up here. It’s been cloudy here all day.

If it’s hot, wet and sticky and it’s not yours, don’t touch it!

Damn, I might have full clouds. This always happens when something fabulous is in the night sky to see.

Edit to add: I forgot to mention that planetary alignments will also be happening in March, so all hope is not lost.

This is the last time we will be able to see the planetary alignment, as all planets are moving house after this weekend and going to the neighbours to stay. I think they said something about Alpha Centauri .  The Moon is undecided. The Earth marriage and all.

I apologize...

I though that was funny.... I love that you guys are on top of this stuff....

You see, if you weren't, my cloudy view would have me thinking the Earth is flat!

No, it was funny but as usual I face disappointment and I can't use my new binoculars, bought specifically to view these sights.
