Don't forget the next phase, where the US can now move to foment just enough internally focused strife in Ukraine, to 1) create enough chaos to steal anything that isn't stolen yet, 2) keep Europe dancing in fear of violent spillover, 3) scuttle any external economic deals the US doesn't approve of, 4) keep blaming Putin for it all, 5) make Trump look like a hero or traitor, depending on the audience.
