Nice tutorial. I do on occasion desire to grab text from one thread for posting in another. If nothing else, I just copy/paste the text, quote, and italisize. It is a bit crude though, and having the source header including the text you wish to quote would be preferable.
I recall a couple months back there was this one useful feature that appears to have wandered off around the same time I briefly investigated the quote button being referenced here. You could just place the cursor in the reply box where you want the quote to go, highlight the text you wish to quote, right click on it, select "quote" and voila!! And you could just multi-quote to your hearts content this way from within a single reply. Now it's just multiple replies that are combined to a single post, which is okay too I guess, but I usually need to edit for spacing.
