More Glitches in the ATS Matrix

Thank you for that. I'm wondering (forgive my ignorance) if that is because it's a temporary password?

If so, can I not just now go on ATS and reset the password to a new one (not temporary)?

I haven't tried that yet as I'm a bit afraid to mess about with it. Are you saying it won't allow me to do that?  I'm game to try though...

Thanks again KKLoco

It could also happen if the site is down for maintenance... which hasn't been applicable for quite some time and has resulted in the glitch we are experiencing since June 2. The cookie I mentioned expired around the end of May, beginning of June, so that's why you were logged out.

BE AWARE that you need to find and save the last password you received because if you logout of your account and can't remember your password, you will NOT be able to reset it, you will NOT be able to create a new account, and the Moderators WON'T be able to send you another password as the automated mailing function no longer appears to work.

Thanks Encia, I have the password in my e-maiil account. If ATS was to crash and burn in a real sense, I'm sure this site would take off like a rocket. Instead we have a sort of slow demise with one bleeding into the other.
I like this site and the members here but it's maybe not the place for pretend poets like me. Oh well, ever onward!

Unfortunately, you cannot reset any passwords. Or access your old account (if you’ve been locked out previously). There is a problem with the SMTP delivery system. Short of _GHOST_ magically repairing back end systems again — we are ATS FUCKED — indefinitely…..

I don’t recommend trying it. If you do, you will be in purgatory like many of us. Enjoy it while you can. Beer

If all of this madness is intentional / malicious sabotage, I guess I'm wondering what motivation anyone could have for leaving the site operational for the remaining few?

As noted previously, I still have access (for now, but this could change), but if people are slowly being 'cycled out' as a result of a DB problem then what would be the point of paying the hosting costs in the final hours?  Why not just cut the losses and call it a day?

Doesn't make sense

Edit - BTW, I am happy to relay any messages for folks who are locked out if you would like me to.  Just reply here, or send me a DM and I'll post it up for you (provided I am allowed to do this).  I suspect it would be wise not to post any..."You dirty rat"...type messages to other members there, so just be advised.  But if you'd like me to extend a 'good bye' type message, I am happy to do so.  I know the feeling of being locked out, and this was my motivation for contacting DTOM when the site was imminently about to vanish (and then didn't).  I said my 'good byes' at that time, so now if it vanishes I guess I'll just deal with it.

Take care!

Perhaps there's a link there somewhere to the "Lou Troglodyte" banner that translates to "You Got Trolled"?

Wisdom knocks quietly, always listen carefully. And never hit "SEND" or "REPLY" without engaging brain first.

Trolled might be entertaining...for a minute, but I don't think I'd be getting my checkbook out for it though.

The ATS rumormill says the buyer of the website has expatriated and is unlikely to return to the US any time soon. The company associated with the buyers has supposedly stated that the guy is AWAL. The rumormill also says the guy was a Bitcoin bro.

So, I'm thinking the guy had previously engaged in some illegal activity concerning Bitcoin like maybe not reporting earnings on taxes, which the IRS is now prodecuting. Maybe he got a letter in the mail from the IRS and decided to take his Bitcoin and go into hiding.

If he is running from the law it's doubtful he'll be touching that site any time soon. It would also explain the strange departures of his sysadmins and the weird blowout when all this started if say for example the owner went AWAL and the sysadmin was not paid, perhaps the admin decided to trash the site because he wasn't paid. It is known that the Darko character was recruiting shit-stirrers from Reddit. I think the shoe fits.

Owner probably has the site attached to an account with cash in it with the registration and hosting on auto-pay given that the renewal processed on the final day before expiration. I've used GoDaddy before and that is their typical renewal process.

So, I think something happened and the captain has abandoned the ship and left crew and passengers behind.

I just had a much darker and far more sinister thought which I'm afraid to even mention on the open forum!  Downright chilling.

Brrrrrr!!  Actually scares me to even think about, and I ain't skeered of nuthin'!!

Well I just spitballed another one after you said that. Maybe on the same wavelength?

Maybe he borrowed the money to buy the site from a cash loaner figuring he will pay it back with proceeds from the site. When the proceeds failed to materialize, the loan was called in, and he couldn't pay and ended up with some cement galoshes?

Terrible, if true. I don't think so, though. From what I've read it sounds to me like the other parties involved with him know that he is on the run.

Well, here's another theory... Maybe the whole thing is run by the CIA and this is some kind of experiment to gauge how people will react and see what actions they will take as a group in response to the stressor?

Might be something to that one. There is another site we probably all know run by a short dude from Florida that I believe executes such activities on behalf of an organization associated with the University of Leicester. Why do I think this? I noted an interesting pattern of visitors to his chatroom complaining about being banned who were then encouraged by moderators or even given direct instructions on how to evade the ban. Interesting, no? Not to mention, easily 90% of that chat room are moderators or associated with the site. I could see the repeated banning being done to provoke subjects in order to study their reactions.

I think you may be dead on with this. BC is decentralized. Why give the government 33% of your earnings when you can buy a private island and disappear. I’m personally 250% up on BC. And I bought in way late starting 3 years ago.

BTW, what was your ATS moniker?

I appreciate this very much, FCD. It’s interesting, the last 11 days has helped me come to reconciliation that it’s all officially over. We are on our own now. I prefer it this way, actually. I know it’s over, instead of waking up to being 404’d - and wondering WTF happened.
