Yes, they have known since 1967.  Any current CIA involvement would only entail keeping whats secret, secret.... "Disinformation" as in false directions to search in.  I suspect....

Are you saying archaeologists would not have taken the 'branching process' into account when searching for the Missing Link? I doubt that.

I think you mean Paleoanthropologist. Initially evolution was thought to be a linear process but is instead is a branching one, the concept of a single 'missing link' is not valid. Anthropology became an academic subject some decades after Darwin published the Paleo version some more decades afterwards. There are, out of an estimated 120 billion earlier folks, just remains of around 6,000 individuals - all being links in the branching process. The term 'missing link' is a piece of misinformation only brought up by creationists it being dripped in the mid to late 20th century. Evidence shows that multiple species of Homo existed concurrently. "Tangled" and "Ghost populations" are current common terms. Genetic analysis of modern DNA suggests that our ancestors interbred with an unidentified (multiple) hominin populations, sometimes called "superarchaics." These populations may have separated from other hominin lineages over a million years ago and interbred with the ancestors of Neanderthals and Denisovans.

BTW thanks a lot for leading me on the path to branching evolution, I went from looking for one missing link, to now having to find many missing links on many branches and diversions.   (/sarc) lol
