Trump Neurosis Thread
Always it’s the land port of entry ones from my own country of Canada that are over the top. I never have an issue in Mexico, and haven’t had any real issues in the US.

Having said that, I haven’t crossed any land borders lately, so…
I also haven’t transited the US for a few years either.

It used to be a 14-16 hour day with a 5 hour layover in Denver, then a few in Houston before the last leg home, then the same on my return.

Now it’s about 5 hours flight and a bus ride, so much easier. I miss Houston airport though! Awesome BBQ, some decent Cajun food and people seemed a bit more laid back than Denver.

I digress, my point was that we are all really quite the same people who happen to live in different countries. All with the same needs and wants.

Things always have a way of working out, and don’t let the politicians and their games interfere with your own happiness. Turn off the news and watch some comedies. Go outside, fix something around the house and earn yourself a nice cold libation.

If everyone was able to ignore the 'news' and remain balanced, there would be no neurosis or mental illness.  Even tongue in cheek.  But it is healthy to vent.  I do see a lot of people's state of mind dictated by the MSM whether they admit it or not.
I have someone at work who is going absolutely bonkers nuts and fearful about the Canadian USA tariffs.  Only if he took a step back he would realise this is not going to effect his pricing at all, since he is not the one paying for customs clearance.....He should know better, but I have a feeling the 'news' up north is even worse than here in the USA.

A little less reason to be neurotic? Or perhaps on to the next thing? Will there be a point when the left finally begins to ignore Trump's bluster, and look at what he actually does?

Quote:President Trump toned down his rhetoric about Canada on Friday after his first telephone call with its new prime minister, Mark Carney.

...After Friday’s conversation, Mr. Carney also took a less inflammatory approach to relations with the United States. At a campaign event in Montreal, he said that the call was “positive, cordial, constructive — exactly what we want.”

“We made progress today, but this is the beginning of negotiations,” Mr. Carney said, adding that the president did not offer to remove the auto tariff on Canada, or the tariffs on Canadian steel or aluminum.

Nah, it's much more on-point to pretend that Trump represents a great departure from US policy, an aberration. I don't see reports of any domestic objections or protests of Trump's bombing of apartment buildings and killing of civilians, but annoying Canadians or using the wrong messaging app, whew, that's front page news....

Weaponized neurosis? Who does it serve, getting annoyed at these things? Might as well watch reality TV, or bet on sports games.

In studying the Trump individual, I believe he definitely operates on the 'all publicity is good publicity' model; 'damned if you don't like him', kind of attitude.  This usually gets him what he wants as people are more distracted with their emotions about him or his behaviour than, what you said, he is actually doing.

We just built a new terminal. We're supposed to be getting new flights to Panama, Amsterdam, and have several to Canada already. We were finally back above pre-pandemic levels and people ALL OF A SUDDEN don't want to travel here. And we get treated like shit traveling elsewhere. The world is divesting in the US over Trump, and treating our vacationers poorly as a result.

Which really sucks for TOURISM HEAVY LOCAL ECONOMIES.

Some of my best memories are when I was young and that main street in Niagra Falls by the Ripley's Believe it or Not and the Canada Wendy's. Taking the money dad gave me to the currency exchange and spending colored money with the queen on it at the Canadian stores was my favorite thing to do.

And they'd all tell me, "You know, we have both prices listed because we accept both currencies."

"But that isn't as much fun!" I would say.

And it was a fun day trip. Over the rainbow bridge and to Canada. With the kilometers on the signs. Such friendly border patrol people too. You killed my childhood Canada-friendly memories!

It's sad to that this country we've always been friendly with is saying, "Okay well go to Europe Instead."

Likewise, I'm not going to hold Canada's "Fuck You for the next four years!" reaction to our elected jackass.

And some things they genuinely do better than us. Like whiskey and music until Alanis Morissette's second single. After the song about the hockey player it kinda fell off a cliff.

I still think they got more of the gifted creative gene from our common UK ancestors.

You can hate me (by citizenship) for my REALLY DISRESPECTFUL instigating leader, Canada, but I just can't hold it against you.

Hope to be friends in 4 years. Well try our hardest to not let the Republicans try to justify a third term for Trump. And we'll try to make sure Governor Newsom defeats Vance in 2028. And we'll oppose all needless annexation and expansion crap too.

What a beautiful sentiment for a friend/country with connections, memories and feelings. It's just another 4 years away before we friendly countries can rule the world again.
