As far as this tragic accident goes, it reminds me of the one that crashed here in the 70s. The PSA 727 and the Cessna. Where a misidentification of the aircraft by one of the PSA pilots lead to the jet rear-ending the Cessna. Only in reverse, with the helicopter misindentifying another plane as the CRJ?

A thousand hours total is extremely low. A thousand hours in a specific platform isn't necessarily. And no pilot is going to experience everything. A long Blackhawk mission is two hours, with many of their flights being an hour or less. When you're talking short flights like that, 1,000 hours gets quite a bit of experience, and deals with quite a bit.

They're looking at human error, because a midair is always human error on some level. The question is who, and how.

That makes sense that flying the same route often certainly does make one very experienced with that one route, but does not add valuable experience in different scenarios. Now I am learning the helicopter was flying at the wrong elevation.

I see Trump is already playing politics about this tragedy and blaming DEI.

He may be referring to the fact that the co-pilot was a transgender woman, I think they call them, when it is a guy transitioning to a 'girl' :



Edit to say that the main pilot, the crew chief O'Hara, also only had 1000 hours of flight time.   The co-pilot Ellis only had 500 hours.

I am not a fan of DEI hires but that isn't certain here yet, even if so far evidence leads to possible Blackhawk pilot error.  Im still not comfortable critiquing service members till we are certain of all the facts

Was there a lesbian helicopter pilot? A lesbian air traffic controller? Something with an underqualified lesbian?

If it's a DEI tirade it's something along those inherently misogynistic lines... and then he'd likely drift into attacks against Biden policy for dooming us all.

He knows only one type of behavior.

This is good though. You shouldn't always be in your comfort zone or secure you have rational and sane leadership.

I don't think Trump was implying that a DEI hire was the issue, but rather that the policies that come along with the DEI theories were.
FAA embroiled in lawsuit alleging it turned away 1,000 applicants based on race

The Federal Aviation Administration was hit with a class-action lawsuit last year alleging it had denied 1,000 would-be air traffic controllers jobs because of diversity hiring targets — as it was revealed that staffing levels were “not normal” at the time of this week’s deadly midair collision.
 
Complaints about the FAA’s hiring policies resurfaced after the American Airlines passenger plane and a Black Hawk helicopter crashed in Washington, DC, on Wednesday, killing 67 people in the country’s deadliest aviation disaster in almost a quarter-century.
 
Details of the litigation re-emerged, too, as Andrew Brigida, the lead plaintiff in the suit, suggested the federal aviation agency’s obsession with diversity hiring and inclusion had only ensured that an accident was likely to happen.

The crux of the lawsuit is that the FAA, under the Obama administration, dropped a skill-based system for hiring controllers and replaced it with a “biographical assessment” in an alleged bid to boost the number of minority job applicants.

I think that the public looks at anything DEI related as having a person hired in through these DEI policies as being the issue, or in some cases a trans person, but the policies alone are the problems. We should focus on the issues and not who is saying what. 

A lot of people like to go after Trump because it's trendy to do so, but when Biden was a flat out racist those same people often looked away. Lets just deal with the issues here, if those DEI policies weren't in place then more people who were qualified for these types of jobs would have been hired, thus allowing for a fulling staffed tower on this night.

Both data recorders from the CRJ are being worked on at the NTSB. The UH-60 CSMU won’t be recovered until after the body recovery is completed.

EXACTLY, no worries im sure I was preconditioned after reading X.com and Reddit's longish threads like it is fact and it's not confirmed. Doesn't bother me because I know to wait and see, but we are dealing with a sometimes unbalanced and sensitive demographic that will overreact to any perceived negative attention to their cause, real or imagined. 

When they don't understand part of being "normal" is sometimes you are gonna catch shit whether it's justified or not, part of being normal is not giving a shit when that occurs.
