Pakistani security forces battle to free about 300 hostages aboard a hijacked train

Pakistani security forces exchanged gunfire on Wednesday with hundreds of separatist militants as they sought to free about 300 hostages aboard a train in the country’s rugged southwest, officials said.
Security forces were being cautious as officials said the hostages were surrounded by militants wearing vests loaded with explosives.
Government spokesman Shahid Rind said Pakistani, who were being backed up by helicopters in the remote region, were being cautious because of the situation. He described the attack “an act of terrorism

At least 27 militants have been killed and security forces rescued more than 150 of the 450 people who were on the train when it was hijacked on Tuesday as it entered a tunnel in Bolan, a district in restive Balochistan province.

OCCUPYING FORCES RETREAT, MORE THAN 30 PERSONNEL ELIMINATED, 48-HOUR ULTIMATUM FOR PRISONER EXCHANGE - BLA

Baloch Liberation Army freedom fighters, through planned military strategy and aggressive advances, forced the ground and air reinforcements of the occupying Pakistani army to retreat after eight hours of fighting. In the clashes that continued for several hours, more than 30 enemy personnel have been eliminated so far, with many others wounded, while the occupying forces have suffered heavy losses.

BLA has maintained complete control of the train and all hostages for the past eight hours. Under the rules of war, these 214 hostages are considered prisoners of war, and BLA is prepared for a prisoner exchange. The occupying state of Pakistan is given 48 hours to immediately and unconditionally release Baloch political prisoners, forcibly disappeared persons, and national resistance activists.

The 214 Pakistani personnel, including military, paramilitary, police, and intelligence officers, are being held under full security and in accordance with the rules of war by the BLA. If our demands are not met within the stipulated period, or if the occupying state attempts any military action during this time, all prisoners of war will be neutralized, and the train will be completely destroyed. The Pakistani army will bear full responsibility for the consequences.

This announcement is final and irrevocable. The occupying enemy is warned that the BLA is fully capable of effectively and promptly implementing every decision it makes.

To aid a bit in placing this in the grander theater of the world, recall that this region of Pakistan's eastern expanses borders on Afghanistan and Iran, representing a large portion of the country's overall landmass (but least populated.)  It borders the Arabian Sea along a long coastline.




This region of Pakistan is part of a larger, historically relevant region, namely; Baluchistan (sp?)




Ostensibly, this latest iteration of the BLA (Balochistan Liberation Army) is "pursuing" regional independence...
Their appears to be plenty of 'regional' support from neighboring peoples of varying kinds.

Lacking any expertise in the area and it's particular history makes me only wonder at the reality among the people living there... you know, the one's just trying to live a life... context being everything.
