I know the title sounds like a horror movie, but I’ve seen many of you getting trapped. The quote box can be a nightmare, but you don’t need to lose sleep over it, especially if you’re using a mobile device.
Ok, so, you hit ‘Reply’ to someone, and their post appears in the editor with a nice rounded box around it. So far, so good. But where do you write your comment? I see many type straight after the last line being quoted, but beware…, you’re still trapped in the quote box.
If you’re not sure where you are, the solution is to put the editor in source mode (the penultimate button in the toolbar); you will now see the quote tags. Tap after the last tag, hit a couple of enters/carriage returns and add your reply. If you don't like writing in that mode, just toggle back to normal mode and carry on typing.
On a PC, in normal view, you get a little red carriage return symbol when you hover near the bottom edge of the quote box, which can be clicked to place the cursor after the quote. As far as I can see, that feature doesn't work on mobiles or tablets, so the best solution is what I described above.
Oh, and whilst you're editing, feel free to remove any irrelevant parts of the quoted text. This practice is especially helpful to pinpoint what you're replying to and to shorten those really long posts.
Happy quoting!!
