I've always thought America had good checks and balances with the wider teachings of our universities with whatever dogma was generally absorbed before "higher education" at home secondary schools etc. We know the MSM isn't exactly unbiased either

Now however we have lost or are losing the balance.

Not going to lie the mashup of everybody thinking they must go to college, with 86% stating they learn about the conflict on social media, is the most concerning trend I hear about America's future. There is very little fact-checking, or reading learning from other sources, hell even on legit sites the comments are chock full of propagandized BS. Still, see posts about Israeli copters firing at the Nova music festival which is a known complete falsehood. No doubt an organized foreign effort mixed with the domestic ill-informed is a dangerous mix.

The internet initially was fantastic for reading and learning about current events and history, now every headline article or comment needs to be vetted and researched for accuracy as all social media contributors aren't concerned about being factually correct, or concise but the clicks views, and likes.

A new survey reveals that 22% of college students sympathize with Hamas. Roughly a quarter of U.S. college students are confident in their knowledge about the war between Israel and Hamas, with 6% saying they’re extremely knowledgeable, and 19% saying they’re very knowledgeable.

Social media is the most common source of information about these issues for students. Eighty-six percent of college students say they’ve learned about the conflict and/or current war on social media.

Among the 99% of respondents who say they’ve used social media in the past three weeks, 32% say they see information about these issues all the time on social media, while 41% say they do often. Additionally, 19% say they see information about these issues some of the time, while 6% say not very often. Only 1% of social media users say they never see related information on their channels.

Students also have learned about the Israel-Palestine conflict and Israel-Hamas war through news articles (62%), talking directly to others (58%), televised news (56%), and podcasts (17%).

Nearly half of students, 48%, say they’re somewhat knowledgeable on the most recent conflict, while 23% are not very knowledgeable. Only 4% of students say they’re not knowledgeable at all.

“College students often feel compelled to stay informed about global events and to engage in meaningful discourse, both in and out of the classroom,” says Eric Eng, a college admission expert and the founder and CEO of AdmissionSight. “This sense of responsibility, particularly in our information age, could account for the number of students who claim to be ‘very knowledgeable’ about the situation. Yet, it’s worth noting that being informed doesn’t necessarily equate to a comprehensive understanding of such complex issues.”

Right, this may read as fiction, but it actually happened to me this morning...

At work, my office has a small balcony. I saw a small honey bee not so much landed as flopped onto it. I noticed she was struggling to walk… stumbling and rolling over. Either she was exhausted or it was too cold, either way, she was on her last legs, literally.

A few minutes later I saw that she wasn’t struggling anymore and just laid there on her back with her legs curled inwards; the typical posture of a dead insect. I didn’t photograph her, but here is how it looked. The only difference is that her wings were out swept like an F-14 when landing.




I don’t know why, but I felt a strong urge to bring her indoors. So, I put her in a paper cup and examined her better. She was completely listless, however, I felt compelled to try to warm her up. I began to huff on her gently. After a few seconds I noticed her hind legs unfurl and stretch out. At first I thought it was some kind of stimulus response, but I wasn’t blowing at her directly, more like heavy breathing into the cup.

I continued for about a minute and lo and behold, her other four legs started moving, then her wings started up. Seeing her wings buzzing was an awesome sight. Shortly after, she was completely back to normal and took flight. I had to recapture her as she buzzed against the patio doors and eventually, let her go on her merry way. She flew straight up into the wild blue yonder.

I hope she lives long and prospers; perhaps one day I’ll enjoy her honey. One thing is sure, at least she didn’t perish on my watch.

I’m not sure why I felt the need to post this, but the feel-good factor I just felt made up for a pretty crappy few days I’ve been having.

They are both pseudo-intellectual charlatans that use deception to promote alternative theories without base in logic.

False Dilemna abound. 



It's a bit long but you can skip around to all the sections. They debunk almost every claim of the 1st Season.  

I can only criticize this movie for the Pyramid Section. They debunked The Ancient Aliens claim by offering an answer to their false dilemma with the internal ramp construction theory. 

Other than that 4.5 stars.

For a long time, my normal home on ATS has been the "Recent Posts" page, which seems to give the best "feel" for the current topics of conversation.

I explored this site looking for an equivalent page, and it looks as though "Today's Posts" is doing much the same job. (Rather than "New Posts", which dosen't seem to go back very far)

My only question, then, is when "Today" begins for the purposs of that page? Midnight in which time-zone? Or does it go back exactly twenty-four hours?

To all the gear heads, what is your favorite motor sport if you had to choose between the two? What would you choose if you had the chance to drive in any of the two classes?

Remember, it's less about what sport has the better drivers, as they can't be really compared. Rallye has no safety net, cars are easier to handle, but F1 has a lot more G-forces and precision necessary during those G-forces. So it can not be compared directly.

I would choose Rallye. For the simple reason that it's raw, dirty and build on a car with a normal chassis. It's competitive but the drama around the drivers is way less. Less glory and more about the sport itself. More room for innovations and in terms of driving awareness, a lot harder than F1, where you know the track has 15 curves you drove through a couple hundred times already. Rallye you drove the curves 2-3 times a week or longer ago. You might be relying on a team mate telling you what's up next. Since then, rain, snow, drought. Never know what's behind the corner. No one to help you if something breaks down. That's raw motorsport for me. This whole package is what would lead me to Rallye instead of F1.

THE COLLECTIVE
 
They came from the fields.  Men, women, children, mothers, fathers, the young, and the old.  Every able-bodied citizen.
 
Pre-dawn was creeping closer.  Soon the twin suns would bring the heat.
 
The agrogeologists and laborers filed out from under the tarp covered fields to return to the safety of their homes.  Thick walled, insulated, prefab identical structures.  All white and sparkling under the morning glow, like a sea of crystal salt poured over boxes all lined up in perfect order.
 
Systematically, one by one, washing off the muck of their labor in sun warmed, crystal clear water, piped from underground aqueducts.  Each home or group complex following the same order.  This is the beginning of the end of their day. 
 
Fresh fruits and vegetables are set out on platters and in bowls.  Individuals and families gather together in picnic style assemblage, laying their sitting mats on the cool floor.  Enjoying conversation of their current interests.  Sometimes they talk of older times, but not often - - as it disrupts the harmony of life as it is today.
 
Soon the sleep meditation will begin.  This is the morning respite.  A time of calmness, tranquility, and rest to relieve aching bodies from the labors they endured tending their fields of growing edibles.  The harvest is months away.  This is a critical time to ensure that plant growth is healthy and abundance assured.
 
Sleep will come.  This is the daily ritual.  The body and mind expect it.  The body responds to the internal Circadian Rhythms.  It is the way of this life, as the suns bake the outside, threatening, but not touching this inner peaceful sanctuary.
 
Later in the day, alarms will sound to awaken the homes of those at rest.  It is a new day, that starts when the suns have passed a safe distance from midday.  This is the time of personal responsibility and education through interactive video programs.  For soon, all will exit their dwellings, and begin the evening social exchanges and festivities.  Each home has a small courtyard in front, with a cooking grill.  There is no cooking within the house, where heat is forbidden.  Each family is responsible for cooking a portion of the feast.  The children and adults alike then visit and mingle among the neighboring homes, choosing delicacies and staples of food from each. 
 
The festivities wind down, with a short siesta following.  Then the workday begins again.
