Massive security breach: Russian nuclear facilities exposed online

The Express seems a bit hyperbolic, but it's all a bit too convenient. Subterfuge? Diplomacy through the media?
Hints at Russian nuclear readiness while exposing a seemingly massive security breach

This feels like we are getting a bit of a back-and-forth: Trump "Putin is crazy," Russia prods with WWIII threats, the West hints about leaked Russia intel.

Quote:A massive security breach has exposed terrifying details about Russia’s rapidly expanding nuclear weapons programme, including what experts say is a significant advance in hypersonic missile technology. Documents obtained and analysed by German magazine Der Spiegel and Danish investigative outlet Danwatch reveal that Western companies—including the German gypsum manufacturer Knauf—are supplying materials used to expand Russia’s secretive nuclear weapons bases.
The leaked files include detailed blueprints and procurement lists from Russian military construction projects, providing rare insight into the infrastructure behind Moscow’s nuclear arsenal. Among the materials specified are cement, plaster, adhesives, insulation, and cladding, many supplied by Western firms. Knauf, based in Iphofen, Bavaria, features prominently. Although the company has publicly distanced itself from its Russian operations, the documents show it still controls its Russian subsidiaries.

Quote:A gigantic modernization that had been in the works for more than a decade, and which was already well underway while Putin stood there at the podium in Moscow in 2018.
Now Danwatch, in collaboration with German Der Spiegel, can for the first time reveal previously unknown details about the enormous upgrade of the military infrastructure at Russia’s most protected facilities.
Together we have analyzed more than two million documents relating to Russian military procurement that Danwatch systematically retrieved from a public database over a period of many months. The Russian authorities have gradually restricted access to the database, but we managed to circumvent these restrictions by using a veriety of digital techniques, including a network of servers located in Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus.
The documents reveal how numerous new facilities have been built across all of Russia: Entire bases have been almost leveled and rebuilt from the ground up; hundreds of new barracks, watchtowers, control centers and storage buildings have been erected; and several kilometers of underground tunnels have been excavated.
The level of detail in the material is now causing several experts to raise alarms about a Russian security breach that could potentially make the large new nuclear weapons bases vulnerable to attack.

Unless they publish the goods I won't put much stock in it...not to say they haven't or wouldn't want to expand their nuclear capabilities. Just something of this magnitude typically doesn't get made public if real...its made public to sway public opinion a certain way.its counter intuitive to espionage and intel operations to let the other guy know you have the goods...

Edit: Your second link doesn't load for me for some reason...just sits at about 10%

There are multiple reports that Russia's nuclear arsenal is poorly maintained, obsolete by 2 decades at least, and actual count is exaggerated. I don't believe they are the boogie men the 80s-and 90s movies make them out to be. I just don't see how this big scary Russian war machine has been marred in a war with a significantly smaller country.

It would help if we could actually inspect their sites but that went by the wayside.  According to this report put out in 2022, we're blind as a bat on their actual status.

But some bodies believe nuclear war is again in our near future as bomb shelter sales have multiplied a lot in the last couple of years.

People are scared, just the way governments like them to be. The shit show continues.

It's a sort of proxy war that's why.

"The U.S. is the largest donor overall and also leads in military aid donations, which include weapons, equipment, and funds for weapon procurement. In total, the U.S. has provided nearly $120 billion in aid to Ukraine since the war began in 2022.4 Mar 2025"
