Why aren't top speeds limited?

Because it's not about safety. It's never been about safety. It's about expensive 700 hp cars that will do 200 mph that make a profit for the companies so that dumbass 25 year old can look cool and waste 2/3 of his check on a car payment and so that nice policeman can give massively expensive tickets and make money for the state and the insurance companies can ass rape you every month.

The courts could give you Community Service that would actually help the Community, but they'd rather have your money than actually do something that helps.

By any chance did you get caught speeding when you were younger?!?!  Tongue Lol Lol

Allegedly.

BUT, I haven't had a ticket since 1990.

I gotta tell this one. It was 1990 and I owned a Kawasaki Ninja 750. On my way home from work, there was a stretch of road about 5 miles long, straight and flat. The State Trooper clocked me at 130.

Yes, I got arrested.
Yes, they impounded my bike and Hell Yes it was expensive.

In Germany they do not have speed limits on some highways, so the main German car makers decided to limit their cars' speed to 250 km/h, if I'm not mistaken.

I have had the pleasure of driving on Autobahns.

Was like PanzerLimos  were being fired past me by giant cannons.

Because they are mechanical machines. Any mechanical machine, even electric ones, start to wear out quickly at above 80% speed or load. If you want a car to last year's going 75 to 80 then it must be able to go at least 100. Race cars go over 100 but they are rebuilt after most races. The same goes for load. You want to haul 3/4 ton in a truck regularly for years, you will have to get a 1 ton truck.

This is just an engineering fact of all mechanical devices ever made.

They also tried speed limiters on 18 wheeler trucks and they had to be removed for safety reasons. They could not pass each other on the highways and could not anticipate going up hills. This coused traffic to clump together dangerously and not to be able to go over even small hills without slowing down well below the speed limit.
I know too much and question everything.
Does anyone know the minimum safe distance of ignorance?
Did anyone ask the monkeys how much fun the barrel actually was?

Psychology.   Because the MEN who designed and built the cars are being men ... making things that can go fast and be cool.   They built them that way because they can.   "look what I made just because I can".    It's a man thing.   (yes, I'm serious  Lol  )

The safest vehicle would have a 6 inch steel spike in the certer of the steering wheel. No one would drive it in a way they would endange themself.

Me too.

Lotus Esprit turbo on the 'Bahn was euphoric for a 20 year old gearhead kid.
