I can never get into these kinds of thing as much as I'd like because the more I think about it the more the list changes.
I can't ever seem to resolve what makes a movie epic (although it's never 'box-office' stats)
The classics deserve their own list, as the entire production was a completely different animal than it is now.
Classics like: The Ten Commandments, Spartacus, Ben Hur, are dissimilar to Seven Days in May, Fail Safe, Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf, Rashomon, Seven Samurai in more than just color film.
But there are "newer" classics that can't compare with them at all... and each genre deserves its own judgment...
There are different expectations across the board... it's too hard for me to choose...
