So I go out this morning for a smoke about 0630hrs and look up.
Northern lights! Cool.
Now I have seen them hundreds of times at least, growing up in Northern Alberta, but they are always seen to the North! This morning I’m seeing them to the South!
Well I go back in and grab my phone, go out and video them, then try to upload them for the members who can’t see them, and I can’t…
I’m just not capable, or my phone isn’t using the proper interface (I really have no freaking idea what I’m talking about), but it said that the file was too large, so I kept shortening it until it fit parameters. It was hardly usable then, and then it said wrong format or something.
I took it right from my phone itself!!
Its just a 24 second video from my stupid iPhone and I can’t even upload it, likely because I’m not doing it properly.
I’m not a total Luddite, just a 60ish y/o that sent it to my kids but can’t upload it here.
Rant over, thanks for playing along…

Which video type did you try to use to post your video?

Whatever my phone videos it in.
Can I change that? I just point and hit the video button…
It says HD 30 at the top right

Sorry, but you can't upload video here. Only gifs, but you're never going to reduce a HD video to gif format and keep the file size down.
The only way is to upload it to your iCloud storage and see if you can share a link to the video file for members to download locally.
Or, upload to some video sharing sites or social media that let's you share a link to contents (ie: Youtube, Instagram, Twitter/X, etc.). Otherwise, a file sharing service like DropBox.

It is interesting to see how the ribbons of light travel across the top and bottom of the Earth, where there are large empty bands in between them, so I'm just wondering if your viewing point was closer to a light band to the South of you while the bands more northward were too far away to see. In my Sun thread, the last video I posted shows how these bands travel move.

Get the YouTube app on your iPhone. Download video. Go play it and find the link. If it says shorts remove the shorts word. Here is a video I took. I will space it so you can see the link. I spaced at at the s.

Ok so I uploaded it to catbox but can’t figure out what to do with it from there.
I’m going to try YouTube, and we’ll see how that goes.
For the love of God I just need a teenager handy to do this shit for me. Ha!!

Ok, once you uploaded to catbox, it should have generated a link.
Just copy that link and paste it here in a post, or edit your opening post and add it.
That's it. You won't be able to embed the video like you see with YouTube, but members will be able to open it anyway.

To upload a video from an app like Youtube click the logo marked in blue.
It will give you options to post a link from the site that hosts the video
