They can be reused and refilled as many times as you like until you reach your destination.

Probably a tad more than you because it's easy enough to read. 

By the looks of it, most speed boats in the range of 25–40 footers carry about 100 to 400 gallons of fuel, and burn about 25–60 gallons per hour, depending on speed.

Which gives you a practical range of about 150–350 miles, and that's with a safety reserve.

A 1000 mile open-ocean crossing, would typically require well over 1,000 gallons of fuel, with more for reserve or bad weather.

Which are tanks far larger than that boat could sensibly carry.

Especially so laden down with additional drug cargo and terrorist force. 

But please tell us all about the "new-fangled fuel tanks?"

You realize U.S. Military Intelligence had the boat "locked in" at port and tracked it until the time was right for the attack. This wasn't a random spot and hit guess operation. And they only told us about this one. There've been others recently, several.

Little boats take drugs to bigger boats that have approved and inspected inventories.

Take out the little boats and all of a sudden, you won't get too many volunteers to move the drugs.

The US didn't do the normal expected thing.  

They went to the drug runners and bitch-slapped them.
