For the next 10 years, you can have any car you want, but that's all you get for 10 years. It will be your daily driver for taking the kids to school, grocery shopping, going to work etc....
Based on reliability, gas mileage, cost of repairs and all that goes with owning a vehicle, which brand would you choose ? The individual model doesn't matter, just which brand.
For me, Ford can kiss my ass. We had to replace the engine in my wife's Fusion at 154,000 miles and whoever designed that car can kiss both cheeks.
Chevy/Cadillac/GMC has gone off the rails lately, with transmissions tearing themselves apart at relatively low miles. Can you imagine paying 60 - $80,000 for a vehicle and it goes to hell first thing ?
Dodge - same problems. No thanks.
After months of research and shopping for just the right deal, I bought a new { to me } Toyota Tacoma TRD Offroad in November of 2023. It is a 2018 and had 42,000 miles on it. My wife wants a new car and after driving my truck, she decided on a Toyota SR5. Toyota are well known for reliability, gas mileage and lasting for up to 500,000 miles with regular care and maintenance.
I'm sticking with Toyota.
ETA - I got nothing against older models. I had a 88 F150 with 368,000 miles on it and it started to burn almost as much oil as gas before I got rid of it. I just don't trust the new ones. Newer is not always better.

Congrats and good luck with your new vehicle. Funny, but I find myself in a situation similar to the one you describe. This might be my last chance to buy something nice and I plan on keeping it a while.
Here's the problem: everything I zero in on ends up being discontinued. I'm starting to think I'm the kiss of death for autos, lol. Here's the list so far...
The first thing I looked at was the Infiniti QX55. This is the last model year. The the Volvo S60 came into view. They are no longer available in the US. Right, how about the Audi A4? Yep, done. The Mercedes GLC? Also done. Lexus IS? Caput.
I really don't want to buy a vehicle where this is the last model year. It seems that most automakers are focusing on the increased demand of SUVs and developing all electric. I have no problems with an SUV but absolutely do not want all electric at this point.
Anyway, best of luck OP to you and your wife. Hope you enjoy your Toyotas.
Cheers.

This is all wheel drive. Perfect for the Michigan weather. The insurance is a little high. lol. The height is perfect since I am 6’2”. If you are on a diet, this car is perfect since it has a “frunk” not a “trunk” it will only hold a small amount of grocery’s.
It’s hard to get a ticket since you could out run any cop unless they are driving a Tesla!
The gas mileage might be a problem.
Be kind to everyone!

I want to drive one, I Do Not want to own one. $ 3500 - $10,000 just for a brake job and tires are $2500 EACH.
Beautiful cars and I have been in love with Lamborghini since the Countach, but WAY out of my price range.

I tend to stay away from foreign cars because I live in a small town in Western Kentucky and the nearest qualified mechanic for those are in Louisville Ky which is about 3 hours away and they are not cheap to fix. Nothing against them, just inconvenient.

I have a Suzuki Vitara in Mx. It’s my wife’s and we love it but when it shits the bed we will be getting the Grand Vitara hybrid. We could go full electric here but I don’t trust the idea of wanting to do a long road trip and worry.
In Canada I have a Ram 1500, it will pull the boat in the summer, heated seats and steering wheel for the winter. 4x4 etc. I would like something smaller and easier on fuel that will still pull the boat. We’ll see, but I will not be buying anything brand new.
Tecate
If it’s hot, wet and sticky and it’s not yours, don’t touch it!

I'm gonna go Buick but only because I have a 97 lesabre with 316k+ miles and only thing I've replaced is water pump and fuel pump and I have a 98 regal with 139k+ have had trouble with the supercharger and replaced that twice and the belt and that is all.
I don't know about the new ones and honestly I think all the new cars are too advanced like if I can't fix it myself I don't want it hehehehehe. I wish I had a truck though. Like mid 90s Toyota or Nissan. Maybe older Datsun.

I had a Volvo S60. 2 litre turbo. Very rapid, but new clutch was £1200!
Current is a Volvo C70 2.4. metal roof automatically folds into boot. Very cool. My daily driver.
Also an MX5 MK 1. 1990. Needs a bit of work!
'l'll just check my Giveashitometer....Nope. Nothing...

This is my summer car. It’s a 2001 Jag XK8. I bought it in 2016 for $6000.00. It had 20,000 miles and was kept in a garage.
The owner died and his wife put it up for sale. I was the first one to see it online. It was a mess from sitting in a garage. It needed tires, they were cracked from siting. Some animal chewed a few wires.
A tune up and I flushed all the fluids. It runs great. 0-60 6.2 seconds. My son loves it. I now have 60,000 miles. It has a few issues. It slow drips oil.
Be kind to everyone!
