Quintessentialy English.

With Pimm's. Of course.

Of course peeled, what do you take me for...

Anything at a Palace garden party would be okay with me.

OK. Coming up. From my green house. I'll just give them a quick rinse, to get the DDT off. Well, most of it...
I now know why I am called a grown up. Every time I get up I groan.

DDT...no thanks...you can't get it all off and don't those softer veggies soak it all in?

Actually, I use, washing up liquid and twelve garlic cloves boiled in a litre of water and then drained and put in a sprayer. Coffee grounds round the plants to keep the slugs and snails away.

Coffee grounds are excellent for cleaning and polishing ceramics and steel; gets rid of rusty water stains, too.

Free used coffee grounds are to be had at Waitrose.

A very posh supermarket here in the UK.

Yep, I know Waitrose, but my memory is stuck in the late 80s... before it became posh.

I actually worked for Sainsbury's for three years in my late teens, eventually told them to piss off... I became a trainee manager and didn't agree with their management practices.

OK so talking about supermarkets in Britain has led me to wonder about department stores. Are they all dying like in the States too?

I really miss the old experience like when I was a kid of the multiple floors, and the cafe/restaurant, and the luxury of it; the mystery of not knowing what you would find. . . Just the calm, civilised, and fancy atmosphere.

We are big fans of the show Are You Being Served? :)

Last department store I was in was probably in Portugal. It was nice, but a bit dead.  They operated in a lot of spots more like a mall, with vendors, rather than one large company holding it all together.  Also department stores used to have manageable prices, not all luxury high end pricing.
