THE REDNECK -- Farewell, old friend

Marina from ATS messaged me today that The Redneck (Doug Tubbs) has died.

I don't have many details; there will be a post on his page from a very close friend later on today.  He was in hospice and had a DNR (for non-Americans, this is a "do not resuscitate" order... basically "let me die; don't bring me back."

We seldom agreed on things, but there was a lot of respect between us.  He was tough but fair and could admit when he was wrong.

Darnit.  I'll miss him.

TheRedneck was a fixture for many years on ATS.  A truly nice guy.

Salt of the earth.   Loved to hear stories about his rural lifestyle.
Returned to college late in life.

He will be missed.

I had a right good few arguments and debates over the years at ATS with The Redneck. 

We seldom agreed on things either, but it was generally good crack.

Dear Jesus, hold this good man in your hands; he had a lot of rough bark on him, but always tried to do the best thing for everyone, often at the cost of his own benefit.   Amen.

Man.  I am shattered.   I haven't talked with him for more than a year.   I will call his Darlin'.   We would have long talks that went to the moon and back, and those of you that didn't know, he was amazingly smart and intuitive.   He helped me to complete a personal theorem regarding particle physics and the constant "c" -- the speed of light, or what is accepted as a 'constant'.   

I remember once Doug and me spent a half hour on the phone debating what is worse:  Fuck off or Fuck you.*    Good times.   God I wish I'd have kept in touch with him.  The motherfucker would never have considered calling me and saying, "hey, I'm ailing a bit."   We all knew his ticker was delicate, and there was a lot that he wanted to do, but couldn't any longer.   

Well, my brother, I guess you finally have all the answers.   You can now unite  c and g in a way that balances the whole equation.  God bless you my friend.   I loved you.




* ETA Fuck off is worse.   At least you still make a difference with 'fuck you'.

Incredibly sad news.

And yes, argentus, he now sees and knows everything... Until he sends us signs from above, we'll stay out of Minnesota and keep an eye on Romania.

I remember the Redneck as well and enjoyed his posts. I really liked him.

Just today I was thinking about who would inform my social media about my own passing. The only thing I came up with is if I stop posting for more than a week, I'm probably gone for good.
