THE REDNECK -- Farewell, old friend
#41
Like a lot of people have already said, we never always agreed on things, but he was a gentleman, was always honourable and respectful when disagreeing or discussing a subject on ATS.

He will be missed.

I always enjoyed his stories, and his recommendations were usually spot on..

He knew his stuff... in a variety of areas...

RIP
His mind was not for rent to any god or government
Always hopeful yet discontent, knows changes aren't permanent
But change is

I remember a time on ATS whilst he was a mod...

We were having a discussion about mental health issues and possible gun control, he was very strongly in favour of his 2nd amendment and I thought if a Doctor raised issues, then a person could or should have their firearms taken for a period, till given the ok. I thought this could reduce mass shooting incidents.

We disagreed, and argued about the pros' and cons' for a good while.
After, I noticed I'd received an 'applause' from him. I sent him a private message asking what it was for, and he replied that he'd enjoyed our debate and that I'd been a gentleman during it even if we disagreed.

That message really made me smile, and he'd shown that people can disagree and still show respect for each others opinions.

It moved me and I'll never forget that.

I'll echo the sentiments here.  I don't think I ever got into it  with him and I always enjoyed his posts.  Godspeed and may he rest in peace.

I hate this.
While I didn't know him like so many of you did, after many years of reading and chatting you feel like you get to know someone.  It's hard to lose another great one.  He always came across as genuine.  He also answered my questions as a newbie, without making me feel dumb!
I hope he gets all the answers and has a drink with the other greats we have lost.

Blessed be Redneck.

Rest in Peace Doug, you will be missed.
It’s like buying a fire extinguisher that says, “This blaze looks serious… unlock full suppression mode for just $11.99/month!”

Damn. I'm truly sorry to hear this.

Doug is the reason I finally pushed the button and officially joined ATS after lurking for so many years. I'll miss you bud.
