English is the official language.

English was designated as the official language of the United States in an executive order on March 1, 2025.   Legal government documents are in required to be in English.  (and for the most part, pretty much always have been)

The majority of the U.S. population (77%) speaks only English at home as of 2024, according to the American Community Survey (ACS) of the U.S. Census Bureau.   The majority of those that speak another language at home also speak English as a second language.

I guess it depends on what time frame you are looking at.
A trip here in 1600 would require different things then in 1800.
I DO KNOW what makes immigration legal now.

Might matter to the 25 to 28 million US residents who have limited English proficiency or don't speak the language.

Languages dont make nations buddy, people do.

And they come in all sorts of different shapes and sizes.

Irrelevant.   The official language of America is English.   That's the language of all legal documents, the language used in schools, and what is primarily spoken by 77% of the population and what is usually spoken as a second language by the rest.

A country has to have an official language for legal documents and schooling.   Has to.   A country simply can't function without one.   And since the vast majority of Americans speak English and always have, that's the official language.

It's up to the legal immigrants to learn the official language and to assimulate.

It's up to the illegal aliens to leave.  They can come back legally and in the mean time learn the language before coming here so they can assimilate and contribute to the country in a positive way.
