The Eye of the Sahara/Mauritania is a really interesting formation.
The problem is that most geologists attribute the formation to natural processes. Specifically, a laccolith intrusion, and not human construction.
"Yet so it is, we see the illiterate bulk of mankind that walk the high-road of plain common sense, and are governed by the dictates of nature, for the most part easy and undisturbed. To them nothing that is familiar appears unaccountable or difficult to comprehend."

What if Plato never existed... think about it... none of his original manuscripts exist, nor from the people BCE who talked about him, not even from Aristotle.
Just something I ponder lol.

The theory that it is a city in present-day Portugal seems likely. According to the theory, it was not surrounded by ocean but moats.

Portugal never conquered Athens. You can put it anywhere you like, but in order for it to be Atlantis, the culture there had to conquer the entire Mediterranean area AND to be overthrown by Athens.

Problem being that multiple ancient sources, including Aristotle, contemporaries, and later philosophers, reference Plato directly. Which would suggest hes a historical figure who likely existed. And fabricating both Plato and Socrates would require an extensive, coordinated conspiracy. The absence of original works and reliance on much later manuscripts fuels the speculation.

There's no mention of a world-conquering culture in ancient literature and none found in artifacts or genetics. We find things in the Mediterranean area that are much older than 9,000 years (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epigravettian). Note that none of the Epigravettian peoples could have conquered a typical Atlantean fighting force.
