You can always skew to disinformation when using averages instead of real state data.

"State Overview In Minnesota, there are 304,851 children under the age of 6 with one or both parents in the labor force. There are 1,714 center-based child care programs and 8,852 family child care homes, combined to provide 222,348 licensed child care slots. Only 81,150 of those slots are currently participating in the QRIS, leaving working families across Minnesota to face a deficit of 82,503 unmet quality child care slots. Around 1 in 4 of children under the age of 6 do not have access to child care in Minnesota. For more information on quality child care and early learning in your state, visit our 2017 State Fact Sheet"

Even this data could be flawed. Eight year old data may not give a clear picture of what is going on now.

The most recent census data is already 5 years old, and where the state is in charge licensing daycare centers, they should have an accurate up to date count of availability.

My main point was how some members here always compare averages to push disinformation. The fact is that city populations are larger so would require more daycares per community population.

"Minnesota is home to the largest Somali community in the United States, with estimates ranging from 61,000 to 94,000 individuals. (AI)

It's up to the members who post disinformation to prove the daycare center ratios to number of children requiring daycare numbers are true, but that never happens.

According to Google Maps, Minneapolis has 3 child care centers.FFS

These alleged tabulations are based on the number of places within Minnesota applying for daycare aid, some of which may be listed on lists or searches as such, but others may not.

That's the point of the audit it will FIND out who is legit and who isn't

right now its cluster f--- with a capital CF

BUT based on the average aid payout per daycare center in Minnesota, there seems to be considerably more locations than the national average, which is actually 2.7 per 10,000 persons

and disengenious to pretend otherwise

Supposedly, Walz should have the correct numbers when and if he answers questions from Congress

FWIW this site says in the whole state

Walz should have the numbers from the auditors which he contracted to help find the true numbers and how it was done, so he can fix this problem. FFS

We now hear the echoes of the rare, obtuse Canadian goose honking meekly as they were likely left abandoned at a Walz-subsidized Minneapolis Child Care center

Yeah prove it's misinformation

its all there at the link provided

Once we know the number of LEGAL day care centers receiving funds we will know they likely illegal ones

Quote:Minnesota receives federal day care funding primarily through the Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF), which supports the state's Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) for low-income families.
  • In federal fiscal year 2024 (October 2023–September 2024), Minnesota received $172.45 million in CCDF funds, according to the Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families.
  • Recent reports from late 2025 (referring to the prior fiscal year) consistently describe annual federal child care funding to Minnesota as approximately $185 million.
For the current period (around FY 2025–2026), projections and references indicate federal contributions in the range of $185–218 million, though exact allocations can vary based on federal formulas and state matching.

Do all receivers of these funds have to be licensed day care

No, not all providers receiving Minnesota's Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) funds—primarily from the federal Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF)—must be licensed day care providers.
Minnesota allows several types of providers to register and receive CCAP payments:
  • Licensed child care centers and licensed family child care providers.
  • Certified license-exempt centers (certain programs exempt from licensing but certified by the state to meet standards).
  • Legal non-licensed (or legally unlicensed) providers (often family, friends, or neighbors caring for children; these are license-exempt home-based providers).
All providers must register with the Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF), undergo background checks (for the provider and household members age 13+), and meet health and safety requirements. Legal non-licensed providers also need pediatric first aid/CPR certification and annual monitoring if caring for unrelated children.
This aligns with federal CCDF rules, which require health/safety standards and monitoring for all providers receiving funds, including license-exempt ones (except relatives caring only for their own relatives).
Families can choose licensed or legal non-licensed providers, though some benefits (like higher reimbursement rates or registration fee coverage) are limited to licensed providers.

I'll wait for the auditors' data and not whatever government source that right wingers are sharing to prove the disinformation media frenzy.
"The only journey is the one within."
You know what happens when information makes into a "record?"

First... it has to get to the record...as in, reported by the principle party responsible for the measurements.

Are we presuming they "kept" damning information for reporting purposes?

(Sounds weirdly incompetent for a multi-million dollar scam...  the "records" would be something "offered" (cooked) instead of the truth... imagine if someone stole those?... you think they had it only on paper?)

This is what "journalism" information does for us... it takes us to 'identities' rather than define the crime.

Second... It gets "accessed" by public and media... (media first - giving 'them' time to tell us what this is all about)

Third... chaos.

The system will use this chain of events as an excuse it 'restrict' what 'we' are 'allowed' to 'know.'

It's either the media - or us - who fail to explore crime news like this...

I vote it's not us....
