Iran bans dog walking and now transport in vehicles!!
#1
So I just came across this.
https://apple.news/Ard8VJyXgRrO-si9lkfl1SA

Citing concerns about public order, health and safety, the Police banned dog walking in Tehran in 2019, and the government has now expanded it to a number of other cities.
Now they have banned transport of dogs in private vehicles as well.

Apparently dog ownership has been “frowned upon” since the revolution in 1979 as they are perceived as “unclean”. Likely no Vietnamese potbelly pigs there then huh?

The article goes on to say that the younger generation has taken to dog ownership as an act of rebellion, and were driving their dogs around to places where they could walk them in private.

Religion and dictatorship screwing with people as usual.

Methinks a change is long, long overdue in that country, but must be done from the inside, the people.

As usual, my 2 pesos…

Cats are considered ritually pure and bestow blessings (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_and_cats).  They are allowed to enter mosques and houses, and a cat drinking water does not make the water impure.   Mohammad cut off his sleeve (where a cat was napping) rather than disturb the cat.  While this story is apocryphal, he was known to be harsh on people who hurt cats.

I worked with some Iranians who were old enough to remember when the Shaw was thrown out of office.  Before that, Iran had moderate rules regarding strict Islamic practices.  Head coverings for women were not required and christianity was allowed to be taught and churches were allowed to be open.

It used to be a law in Iran that it was illegal for Jews to go out walking in the rain.   If a Jew was out in public and it started raining, it was legal to kill the Jew.   This because Jews were supposedly dirty and the rain would wash the dirt off the Jew and into the street where Muslims would walk through and get dirty.

True story.

Wish I had a link to it.  I read that a few years back.

based on your post, as an experiment i have edited my previous post to test for objectivity in assertions:

so where are they on the cat catholic issue?

with this exercise in contrast, i now see that my previous statement could be seen as horribly unfair, bordering on anti-caninism! i apologize to dogs everywhere should any offence have been incurred.

i asked ai about your story:

The claim you mentioned about a law in Iran regarding Jews and rain is a widely circulated myth and is not supported by credible historical evidence. While there have been numerous instances of anti-Semitic laws and sentiments throughout history, the specific assertion that it was legal to kill Jews if they were caught in the rain is not documented in reliable historical sources.

Iran has a complex history with its Jewish population, which dates back thousands of years. While Jews in Iran have faced discrimination and persecution at various times, the specific law you mentioned appears to be more of a legend or exaggeration rather than a factual legal statute.

It's important to approach such claims critically and verify them against credible historical research.

so it would be interesting if you could find the link; i don't implicitly trust what chatgpt says.

I live in a building which has twelve apartments. Between them my neighbours have seven dogs. My home overlooks three busy paths/walkways and I see a constant stream of people walking their dogs. People and dogs of all ages, shapes and sizes. People with their little blue bags picking up dog dirt and I wonder at the madness of it all.

I wonder how worried Iran is about dogs now?  Lol
