If you're getting a bit older and thinking you should change your lifestyle by cutting back on red meat, getting more exercise, stop smoking and slow down on your drinking, just remember....

Keith Richards and Willie Nelson are still around and Richard Simmons is dead.

Think about it.

Who was he?

Quote:Richard Simmons was a flamboyant fitness personality and actor who built a fitness empire in the 1970s and 80s. He was known for his Sweatin' to the Oldies workout videos, his hit TV show The Richard Simmons Show, and his motivational speaking. Simmons was overweight as a child and struggled with dieting, which inspired his career in fitness. He believed that fitness should be accessible and fun for everyone.

The UK recommends 14 units of alcohol a week.

The older I get, the less I care about those things.
I'm in my mid 60s.
I don't want to live into my 80s or 90s.
I've seen people that age.
My mother is 91.
She can barely see, barely hear, barely walk, and her mind is messed up.
I don't want that.
So I'm going to go ahead and eat steak (if I can afford it) and not exercise
more than walking a few miles a day.

It depends.

In Portugal we have an actor that was forced to stop performing because he had a Transient Ischemic Attack the day after Christmas. He was 98 at the time and, apparently, was the oldest living stage actor still performing.

According to his daughter, in his 99th birthday he ate "cozido à portuguesa"`.

One of my grandmothers made it to mid.90s, the other to 100. They both consumed more Little Debbie's than is considered healthy.

I do go the the gym to feel better, not to live longer or build up.

I don't want to sit around just being a vegetable as I have seen too many in my family ending up doing for their last years.

I want to go out in a blaze of glory fighting against giant radioactive ants.
I know too much and question everything.
Does anyone know the minimum safe distance of ignorance?
Did anyone ask the monkeys how much fun the barrel actually was?

I think inactivity makes things much worse.

I know each person is a different case, but my boss just turned 76 last week and remains as active as possible, while one of her cousins, with the same age, is showing signs of mental and physical decay, because she stopped getting out and seeing her friends and remains at home all the time.

I have never forgotten a bumper sticker that I found in a gift shop in my teens...
"Eat right, Live well, Die anyways "
