Powerball is at 1 Billion $$. What would you do if you won?

Powerball is at 1 Billion $$.
We don't buy lottery tickets unless it gets to a billion.
Then we buy one.
We were in the newstand Saturday to buy one, there were tons of people.
Some buying 20$ worth.
Others talking about how they are also in pools at work.
We just buy the one ticket.
We figure that if God wants us to win, it'll only take one ticket.

We'd take the payments instead of the lump sum that way you get more of the money.
Taking a lump sum automatically cuts the win in half.

What would we do if we won?  Not much different.   We'd bank about 5 million in CDs so we'd have money for nursing homes as we get older.   (both my husband and I have some big health issues).   And we'd invest the rest after donating to a couple of charities .... two medical research charities and a religious based charity (no, not Catholic charities).

We like where we live.  It's an average sized house in an average city neighborhood.  Been here 25 years and don't feel like moving.   We like the old cars we drive.  They are comfortable and running okay.   We don't travel anymore because of health reasons so we wouldn't be going on trips or anything.   We aren't into 'stuff' to buy.

Nope.   If we won then the only change for us would be that we could relax about the medical bills and the upcoming (probable) nursing home bills.

What would you do if you won the 1 billion powerball?

Like you, I don't think my life would be all that much different. I feel ya on the medical bills. Just had another major surgery on the 25th and got one more to go. My kids would be set for life, but with a stipulation : If you want a share of the money, you have to keep your job.
No laying around spending money. Your share is for retirement.

Everybody and their Mother would be begging for money, so I'd get a new moat around the house full of gators with 50 cal and sharks with lasers .

My Wife would get those mini goats she's been buggin' me about.

I'd do everything possible to remain anonymous and not have my identity disclosed.

Otherwise... face the reality I'm going to need a legal team, a management team, full-time security, and that for the rest of my life I'd be a prisoner in my own mansion.

Would rather hit say a $500,000 win, and tell everyone looking for a cut that it's already went toward my bills, mortgage, and 401k.

You wouldn't need to use Ancestry or similar to find long lost relatives.

Just post about your win on the internet...?
'l'll just check my Giveashitometer....Nope.  Nothing...

Of course I would take care of my medical and secure my home life. Then I would invest some money in giving the homeless jobs/shelter, for the one's that want to work, some sort of nonprofit business. I would also invest some in helping homeless pets. Probably why I have never won.

Amazingly enough I did meet some people who hit one of the few billion dollar powerballs, 3 people hit it. The people I met lived in a swank community on the river. I do work in there sometimes. The community has their own private marina, among other amenities. they moved out. I guess to a better community.

Mrs Carpy bugs me about those, too.  We recently adopted a couple of rescue Donkeys.

I think we'd end up with a Zoo.

Well, I for one would retire. I don’t mean that I would take up beer drinking and fishing with my dog full time like last time I retired.

I just wouldn’t fly back and forth from the Arctic and NWT to be a medic anymore. I would probably open a meat smoking business and supply the street taco vendors with brisket and ribs or something to keep busy.

My wife could continue her practice if she wanted but, we would be to a place with a nice sized garden/yard with a one level house.

Of course we would make a lot of charities happy as well, buy the kids a house and peace out!

A billion is a lot of money, and I don't think most people would know what to do with that amount I'd imagine.

I wish you luck FlyersFan!!  Thumbup Biggrin
