After extensive repairs and effort to recover the CVR, it was determined that the accident flight was not recorded, and the CVR likely hasn’t recorded anything “in the last several years”.
Logic is dead. Long live BS.

Oh dear. Everything breaks. But hidden failure modes are a design flaw. Or a cover-up.

Don't make me all suspicious-like.

Then again those things were likely designed in the 70s, when engineers still occasionally had undue faith in scheduled maintenance and didn't think that every piece of technology was trying to actively kill or stymie them.

This was most likely skipped maintenance trying to save a buck, and pencil whipped inspections figuring the CVR recordings wouldn't be needed, and if they were, "oops".
