North Korean TV Live (KCTV) ... Watching Now
#1
It's wild. They are learning of the old glory war days and standing at attention.

Maybe it comes on every day at a later time here in N. America.

I'll study them for a bit.

We need a translation feature.

Visually it seems to be all militaristic.

An Orwell 1984 vibe; same type of TV messages to the people.

Link has a recent explanation of what we may be watching.

Quick Take: North Korean TV Propaganda - 38 North: Informed Analysis of North Korea

They are spying on their citizens in other ways.

Digital Surveillance in North Korea: Moving Toward a Digital Panopticon State - 38 North: Informed Analysis of North Korea

It appears all the women have to wear skirts/dresses - no pants - even female soldiers going to war. If they even allow women to go to war. I could be wrong. It's hard to tell. I don't see women heading important roles, such as managing projects, engineering, etc.

So I notice in between the militaristic shots they have calming, hypnotic shots of nature. Weird, but most likely very effective.

Does it have audio for you? I can't figure out if it's just my computer not playing audio or the channel doesn't have audio. I think it's my computer. Yes I did "un-mute" the little speaker symbol on the bottom and put my volume all the way up.

Honestly yes very Orwellian but I DO kind of like it in a weird way. Like....look at all the crap on TV nowadays. Can you even IMAGINE if we only had state run TV in America?!?!?! I think it might be an improvement over some of these shows they give airtime to. Of course if I knew what they were saying/understood Korean I probably wouldn't feel that way hehehehehe.

I have read a couple of books by people who escaped North Korea and it just seems universally AWFUL there but then just the other day I saw a news/propaganda piece about a new beachside luxury resort they have constructed there and nobody looked too skinny or like they're starved  or unhappy. There were a TON of people enjoying the beach in the news story, but I KNOW it's all propaganda. [MY OPINION] I bet the North Korean government commanded these people to go to the beach and look like they're having a blast just to make a propaganda for the US to see.

I don't have audio either and I mentioned that a translation feature would be really helpful in understanding the propaganda messaging.

Yeah, it's mind control where they show happy military 'winning' scenes mixed with beautiful calming nature scenes.

But we know those beach scenes with well fed people is propaganda and any spokespeople you see are working for the regime and are completely and utterly indoctrinated.

They are extremely good at mind control and now have all citizens on guard to report each other for any wrong thinking.

Imagine state-run TV in America as each state would offer a different propaganda flavor and they too could mix in scenes of natural beauty to help tourism. lol

You don't have to imagine it, just turn on the TV and pick a channel or any of the streaming services.

Well, the lines of thinking we were perhaps on was that state-run TV would be pushing specific narratives and agendae just like N. Korean TV does, which is not what streaming or our N. American TV stations do.

Did you watch it? They basically have two themes, which are militaristic, historical militaristic glory days, and scenes of nature, and most narrators that have lapel pins which I can only think is regime-approved identifiers.

I've said before my interests are cultural anthropology.

Yes, NK has a dress code and a hair code.

Many are starving -- many still cook outside over an open flame.

So much in this world is completely unnecessary.

But we are bystanders letting them have power. Time to stop that.

Did you see what happened in Canada with the airline workers asking for a living wage?

They invoked a government law that said they must go back to work, and they said 'no' we will go to jail. Those that thought they had the power, caved.

Imagine the working class being jailed for wanting a living wage and won because they got the power.

Snap!

Did they really happen? ^.^ that gives me a little hope in the world. Maybe people are really ready to stand.

The place looks spotless.

Even if it is all cherry-picked.

Then again, they probably hand down 20-year gaol sentences for littering or dropping fag ends in public.
"Yet so it is, we see the illiterate bulk of mankind that walk the high-road of plain common sense, and are governed by the dictates of nature, for the most part easy and undisturbed. To them nothing that is familiar appears unaccountable or difficult to comprehend."

Oh yes, it really happened and it really worked. Just try work stoppage and let the government and those CEOs know you are willing to go to jail to get a living wage. See how fast they start negotiating in good faith.
