At some point he was going to have to play nice with china but they needed to understand we are not afraid to cut them off despite our current needs for their goods, which is another issue we over here need to solve as I don't think we were able to fully cut them off. I don't like being dependent upon other nations for our basic life needs. idk, he seems to negotiate deals like I do so I have no complaints but others do.

The brash, loud, and ill-tempered New York businessman's persona is mostly from thier home environment. End of the day, a survival mechanism and it's thier negotiation style, it's no different than some cultures' insistence on haggling over price. People don't appreciate its direct and to-the-point style, but thats an aspect I like too.

So Amazon (Bezos) will now list the additional costs from Trump's tariffs and the White house is calling this type of 'transparency' a hostile act. Imagine those MAGA who will be informed as to how tariffs really work.

"Amazon is among the large retailers bracing for the impact of tariffs. Trump’s 145 percent tariffs on China are expected to hurt the independent retailers who rely on imports. Approximately 60 percent of Amazon’s sales come from the smaller retailers. "

All will be fine in the long run... short-term pain long-term gain..... Our industry is taking a huge hit.

BUT one of the CFOs of a larger firm believes that if we can lower our expenses just 10-15% over the long haul, these hardball negotiations that worry so many will be well worth it. 20% or higher could be possible. It's his understanding that our industry's negotiators and the Chinese side are working on the parameters.

We are in between seasons and hitting our slowest time of the year, so he believes we can weather this better than some other industries. Well aware that doesn't work for everybody

He said that for every 7.5% saved long term from these China negotiations, he will raise our commissions by 1.5%.

If we could get to additional 3% would be fantastic. Once the new tariffs are finalized, he hopes to wipe out our obscenely large sample charges, too. Thats just one company, if we can get all of our associate companies to make the same small concessions. We could recoup all of our "losses" in 2 or 3 months.

For perspective, in my 30 years or so, CRs have floated between 8-10%,+1.5-3%, AND saving on sample charges would be a windfall. Furthermore, while he doesn't want to lower prices on carryover styles on his legacy collection, he is thinking of introducing a lower-cost line, which would open us up to dozens of new clients in our small territory.

So we watch and wait...

@ Bezos

If China Shipping to U.S. is slowed to nothing, how can prices be higher if there's no product?  Lol

Amazon denying the reports… but if they were true, what’s the difference between showing that vs sales tax on a receipt?

Wouldn’t that make the tariffs more effective by showing consumers what they’re paying extra on foreign goods?

Not sure why the White House had such a visceral reaction to something that is just transparent to consumers.
