More than 50 countries have reached out to the President to begin tariff negotiations

I would suggest that if he did not, Bessent or Miller informed him very early in the planning.

But it's exactly what some financial analysts suggested would happen; it's hurting us both, but it hits the Chinese harder and faster.

So says some YouTube videos. The video you posted purports to show vacant manufacturing buildings as if they had been recently emptied,.all due to the tariffs that haven't even been implemented yet.

How long until they start showing videos of police nailing workers into there apartment buildings? There is a whole thread on the imminent fall of China.

Time will tell, but some things are being a bit over blown.

One can believe whatever they want to....the videos are backing up what Im hearing after being in the apparel business for 40 plus years.

My industry gets virtually all of its merch from China, about a half dozen or so are my friends on Facebook that I know through the apparel industry work at various suppliers in China. Most are at half staff and will be shut down in 4 weeks or less, unless they can make other products to sell in other Asian markets.

Im not trying to downplay either side of this. The trade war will have a world-wide affect. Mostly negative.

Many benefits that America will see, will be years away.

Meanwhile, I have been told for the last 20 years that China is in imminent danger of collapse. That would be fine with me, but I'm taking an I will believe it when I see it approach.

It's not about collapsing China, that would kill my business. We just need rebalancing, hopefully cooler heads will see that.

As for the benefits, it depends on the terms of the tariffs; for example, if we could sell our name-branded product back to Chinese American designer companies, profits would soar in the first few quarters of being able to do so. If they imported a 1/4 of what they export, the financial influx to American, European, and Australian companies would be fortune-making for those connected; 1/4 equals about 30 billion wholesale influx of new business in China for my industry.

Kevin O'Leary touches on the knockoff Chinese apparel manufacturers do of other nations' companies' IP. In our industry, first of all, they just open up 1000s of websites selling knockoffs of American designs, mostly bridal and prom apparel.  While some of them are identical, the vast majority were not, and many of what should have been sales to American retail stores were sold at discounted prices directly to the American consumer, most times using the images and videos of the original designer company. Finally, after years, an industry organization got China to shut those sites, but they still pop up seasonally, flood the market, shut down, and come back under another name, next season.

Worse, now they just open up legit companies with almost knock-offs sprinkled in with thier designs, and sell directly to retail stores with huge product discounts. The mark-ups were already razor thin, thankfully, COVID shut down a lot of those companies, but as our business comes back, the knockoffs are returning. All the while, none of those American brands are allowed to be sold in China. Plenty of American companies retail well in Japan and South Korea

None of that BS occurs in the US, and even when it does in other countries, they crack down harder than the Chinese.

None of this is remotely equitable in a free and fair trade market.

I guess I see China as the true enemy of America we should be shutting down...it sure isn't Russia. They as you noted steal IP and tech from the US both private and governement sector. They regularly attack our networks with state sponsered hacker groups. They bully our allies and basically anyone trying to navagate the shipping lanes around them. They use their status as the manufacturers of most of our essential goods against us all the time. They are simply no friend of ours and somehow we chose to be fully reliant on them. I think it is an issue and they are an enemy of the US...I would love to see their totalitarian government burn to the ground and the people of China actually habe a voice again.

Its the collateral damage a collapse would cause, in terms of human suffering, financial concerns, and who would control and maintain their nuclear stockpile. thats just off the top of my head
