This is good news ...
it may not be over yet. We could still be at the very beginning.
Its also a little early to start thinking of names for a recession, if it even gets that bad. It looks like the "Yuge Recession" is leading in the polls.
Fear, and panic drive the markets, its not that different from the evening news.

"As of April 6, 2025, the U.S. trade deficit with the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom (UK) collectively can be calculated using the most recent full-year data for 2024 and partial 2025 figures available up to February."
Why conflate the UK with the EU?
We aren't in the EU.

Yes, we are skittish reactionary animals sometimes, I think I saw in my perusing the Fed meets today, as per usual
My last 10 bucks till payday and my left nut says they drop the interest rate.
There are concerns but this isn't 87 ..... yet IIRC the Asian and European markets were worse off.

looking for confirmation but Im thinking Trump has suggested no negotiations with the EU as a whole, he wants to deal with them individually. Italy's PM is supposedly visiting April 15th

modest increase for now on the S&P
Quote:The stock market crash of 1987, often referred to as "Black Monday," occurred on October 19, 1987. On that day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) opened at 2,246.73, which was the closing value from the previous trading day, October 16, 1987. However, the crash unfolded rapidly after the opening bell. By the end of the day, the DJIA had plummeted 508.00 points, closing at 1,738.74—a staggering drop of 22.6%. This remains the largest single-day percentage decline in the index's history.
The opening itself didn’t reflect an immediate massive drop, as the decline accelerated throughout the trading session due to panic selling, program trading, and margin calls. So, to clarify: the market didn’t "open" far down—it fell dramatically over the course of the day. If you’re asking about the initial drop right at the opening, precise intraday data from that era suggests the decline began shortly after trading started, but the full extent of the crash was realized by the close.

So much BS floating around like "90-day pause on tariffs" which the White House says is "fake news"
It's a rollercoaster ride and it isn't for the faint-hearted...

We aren't in the EU.
tbh most americans still think of the uk as part of the europe union. never really cared about whatever that brexit thing was. that line was drawn pretty much when y'all started using weird metres and wacky temperatures and stuff. when you were on our side with that, things were cool. shoulda changed back, that might have helped. now most maga see the uk as sort of halfway between canada and france, culture-wise. anyway.
not to be rude. it is what it is. britain's pretty cool actually.
so, with all the financial market kerfuffle, today's a good day to see what might be happening "hidden in the shadows". since the trade stuff is eating up all the oxygen in the room. great time to sneak things in that might otherwise make a splash in the news cycle. not that that isn't all controlled anyway, but you get me. pay attention to one hand while the other does the trick. conspiracy theory stuff. or politics and that.
anyone see anything interesting?
