Looking for your opinions ….. work related

i just realized everyone  at work has checked the pizza place employees out using their work #, including the s/vs.  So it seems odd I am being singled out.

I once had a manager at Verizon pull us in for a meeting after the FCC passed the law to make it less if a monopoly to let other telecoms compete without the monopoly advantage.

She asked us for ideas to stay competitive since we couldn’t charge over a certain amount for packages.  I asked her what the cap was, and I told her come down 5.00, and she scoffed at me that was a stupid idea.

Fast forward 2 months later, the office is called together to notify us she won a trip to Hawaii (with my idea).  She immediately locked eyes with me.  Bitch stole my idea and won a trip to Hawaii.  I was pregnant at the time so I never said anything, but I’ll never forget it!  I’ve seen my share of incompetent and straight up shitty managers!

I do like my current manager, but feel he could’ve addressed these issues a long time ago as they’ve been going on the whole time!  It’s constant and walking on eggshells at work shouldn’t be happening!

I feel I should apologize, deeply regret not responding sooner.  I admit it is because I take this seriously.

Make certain all your chronologies are at least annotated ... accept that there will be a counter-narrative.

If they make the mistake of an aggressive counter-narrative which implies or relies on inferences (they supply) about you personally... a lawyer might say "They are going to lose."

But is this a conflict which you can 'negotiate?'  Do they want to negotiate (which is usually a sign they know they can't really "win.")

If all of this is a the result of a bad cluster of employee-manager relationships, perhaps it is time to change venue...

From your telling, it seems like a culture change happened under your feet.

All the details wrangling themselves into suspicious positions might be a valid reason to get out of there.

The reason I hesitated to reply was because - I am operating under the assumption - that we are talking about a life... yours... and the outcomes is far too important to let some comment or other of mine to misdirect, or misguide you in innocent ignorance of who you are...

Not asking for that answer... but I recognize that you have to be 'set' to accept the consequences... because as much support and good will you may have from me... I am insulated from the results... I might get reckless and say something I would not really want you to carry forward with pressing influence.

Dangerous thing.... giving opinions... especially when it could mean losing a beautiful professional environment, or creating a new wall in your professional life... it's always some manner of loss.

People complicate something that could be precious and simple... just for social maneuverability...

Thank you for your reply! I’ve decided I’m out, I never want to go back there, it isn’t worth fighting for.

I don’t want unemployment, I just want to start over somewhere new. Had an interview today, looking good!

I loved my old job, and a couple of people there, but it was a highly toxic environment with literal screaming fights in each dept almost every shift,  I was starting to dread going there.  My mgr was a nice guy (too nice) and would never address the issues.  It seems there are 2 people there who would gaslight, gossip and do the bare minimum leaving others to complete their tasks.  I completed many in my 7 years there and never complained about it.  One worker gets super angry at one of the lazy gaslighters and flips out constantly (I really can’t blame her),  but I begged her before I left “don’t let them get to you”.

That being said, there was a new policy put in place, and I was not made aware or it by my superiors.  I was the 2nd one to get written up!

The new company is also a private equity firm, who has been known to take over failing businesses, take out massive loans, strip the assets then bankrupt the company.  The direction they are going wouldn’t have been for me anyways.

So yes it’s time to move on!

The one she snapped at is super sweet funny kind hard working honest and I do adore her, she makes me laugh.

s/v 1 (the one who verbally attacked s/v 2), then tries to pull aside s/v 2 to explain her behavior.  She claimed it was because of me, but didn’t give her any reason.  We had a talk, I asked her what was wrong, she denied saying what she said and I said if you wsnt to talk let’s talk.  She didn’t want to, so do I go back to work.

Show up to work on Monday and I am told by s/v 2 that s/v 1 said the day before she’s calling corporate on me.

20 minutes into shift get called into office by corporate.  First thing the woman says to me is you’re very photogenic on camera, “Ah ok thanks?”, 2 hours later of nasty time from this woman my job is now pending, and I’ll know in 7 dsys if I’m still employed.  All because, according to her, the pizza place next door uses their work # for the sale price and they should be using their own personal #s.  They’ve been doing this for 7 years, and my former s/v trained me to do this.  I’ve never been written up or told otherwise.

i run the photo dept pretty much, I have fixed the machines, done all the ordering can do a passport with touch in under 5 minutes.  My coworkers cannot even alphabetize the orders and let the queue build up, them get confused and put the wrong pictures in the wrong envelopes.

i never complain, I just fix it when the customers come back.

S/v starts to almost cry when she hears what’s happening and tells me she was upset with me because she thought I like s/v 2 more then her ( I assume because s/v 2 cracks me up).  I told I like her but you’re my ride or die.  Not because she deserves it, because she’s mean to everybody since she transferred to my store, but I know her personal life is very unhappy, and I always forgive her because I know she needs a friend.

now s/v 3 who has gotten at least 5 people to either quit or be fired in the last 5 years smiled
when I came out of the meeting and says “you’ll find another job” and no don’t worry, are you ok?  I know you got last photo girl fired because another s/v confided in my she made an anonymous complaint against her.  I noticed s/v3 always gets anyone who filed complaints against her ends up fired, I have years ago filed 2 against her (she threatened me with her fist when I used a wrong colored trash bag for the outside trash, doing her job I might add), and would scream at me in front of customers if she had to come up front to do an override.

I really don’t think s/v 1 tried to get me fired, still don’t know if I am, it’s also a new invest company that bought us out, I believe it was s/v 3.  I am considering contacting one of my cousins who is a lawyer obviously.

my Question to DI is what’s your gut telling you happened.  S/v 1 or s/v 3?

In Europe, Britain, Australia, New Zealand and such, you can file for unfair dismissal, and the process of dismissal must also follow guidelines, usually with three warnings preceding it.

If you are doing your job adequately or well, then they better have a really good reason with objective evidence, or else you can take them to the cleaners.

After an American take-over of a New Zealand company, several staff, including myself, were fired, within weeks, for various reasons (mainly because we complained that we were told to bypass safety and rigorous business practices by the new management). Every fired staff member filed for unfair dismissal, and every one of them also won big pay-outs from the company.

I imagine that the American management were surprised, since US citizens have no such rights.

chronaut, I really don’t have the time right now, and I’d like to be done with them and move on.  I live in a Right to Work state (no rights) so that would complicate matters.  No warnings, nothing.

Ido appreciate the advice though!

I also don’t want my Mgr getting into any trouble.  He really is a good man, spread too thin yes, surrounded by crazy boomer bitches yeah.  I just can’t do it to him.

Thank you Quantum12.  The new place is offering me better hours with better pay!  I’m pretty psyched!

Will I miss the photo dept absolutely, that was my niche, building canvasses and various creative products was awesome and I loved it, but time for a change.

Happy to be moving on!

If he is a good manager, and you are a good worker, perhaps he will see that, for the sake of the business, it isn't in his best interest to let a good worker go for superficial reasons.

I think that you also need to look out for yourself, and be a bit hard nosed about it. Don't be anyone else's victim.

Perhaps, draw comparisons between the relative value of your work to the company and its customers. If other employees aren't pulling their fair share of the weight, and they are disrupting the work of those who do, perhaps they are the "deadwood"?

So, perhaps it would be wisest for them to shut-up and/or retract their aspersions, lest they come under the closer review of the higher-ups?

He did appreciate me, I don’t doubt that.  He tried to keep me.

I have found story after story online that this is happening sll over the country and the stories all seem to be within the last 2 months.

One pharmacy tech used a coupon that another cashier gave her, it turned out to be linked to another customer account; the problem with that is the coupon printers are sooo slow you would think they have aol dialup.  I’ve seen people walk out the door and then their coupons print out.  Do thst pharmavy tech was fired for that one thing (that was probably not her fault) after 24 years of service.  I read this on R@dd/t.  Story after story.

I am 100% convinced this company is stripping it down to bankrupt it.  That is their MO according to brokers, and many other reviews I have read.

I don’t want to live under that kind of pressure, I did enough with everybody fighting.  I also believe more will follow in that store.  It’s only a matter of time, and the workload I was doing was extreme sometimes, literally constantly moving, checking in FedEx, running photo, answer phone, check people out.

Many nights I worked I never got a break or a bathroom break.  So many times I called s/v #3 to the front and she wouldn’t show.  Always some stupid excuse.  She was in the bathroom, the cooler, nowhere to found.

I worked every holiday the whole time I was there, nights, weekends while everybody else whined about working it.

I am done!

Thank you for letting me vent and Well Wishes!
