Reports today that all the Iranian S300PMU systems were damaged or destroyed. The S300 is Iran’s most advanced system and is used to defend nuclear sites.

We’re finally getting an idea of what the F-35 can do. Reports coming out today that Iranian long range radar stopped working five minutes before the strike. The only platforms capable of carrying out an EW attack like that are F-35s. The F-16 and F-15 have Elbit EW pods, but for an attack like that, they’d have to get close and there would be too much risk of detection getting in position.

You don't think their electronics could have been compromised via supply chain embeds like those pagers or whatever? Just wondering how you know.

It would be much harder to do. The electronics for these were produced in Russia, or locally in Iran. They also aren’t connected to anything they could send a signal through. So either they received a signal through the beam, or were hit with an EW attack. Both of which the F-35 has the capability to do.

The F-35 has an incredibly robust EW system both through on board antennas, and through the APG-81 radar. One of the things it was designed to do was exactly this. Several engineers that I follow in various places have said this is exactly the kind of electronic attack they’d carry out. They are former F-35 test personnel that would know.

The F-35 uses the AN/ASQ-239 for 360 degree coverage. The system identifies threats, geolocates them by talking to other F-35s flying in the area, and then has the ability to us on board Electronic Warfare systems, that can be tuned to meet new threats digitally, against said threats. The ASQ-239 combines with the APG-81 radar to form an extremely powerful and potent system that's almost as good as the system carried by the EA-18G. One of the primary F-35 missions is Suppression of Enemy Air Defense (SEAD).

The strike was made up of 100 aircraft, including F-16I Sufa, F-15I Ra'am, F-15C/D Baz, and F-35I Adir for the strike packages, as well as 3 KC-707 tanker aircraft, and Unit 669 CSAR assets (they fly CH-53D and UH-60 airframes, with support from AH-64Es as required). One of the Baz (F-15C/D) was the aircraft involved in a midair collision in 1983 near Negev, with an A-4 during training. It landed with one wing completely separated from the aircraft, and was returned to service by 1985, when it was credited with half a kill on a Syrian MiG-23. It was previously credited with four kills in the 1982 Lebanon war.
