Thank you for this amazing write up. It helps me understand AI better!
I went to my Dr. the other day. I have sadly Covid. At the end of my visit he asked me if it was ok for him to have AI write up my report! I said is AI going to soon replace you? He never answered me. Prick.
Today I looked at my report in MyChart. It was three pages long with all kinds of crazy details. I had my heart replaced after a valve replacement in 2022. It knew everything. Must have pulled my data from the hospital that did my surgery!
Thank you again!
Years and years ago I asked my doctor how I could get a hold of a complete copy of my medical records and he said it was complicated and he didn't advise it. Now with my medical profile available online to me on a couple of networks, I can get the most recent stuff easily enough. You think I could find my blood type in there, I should try because Doc said they don't test for that without any medical reason and suggested I give blood to find out. Why is my medical history exclusive to my doctor and not readily available to myself, while apparently AI has access? They seem to want to exclude the patient from their own health records, or make you pay to get it.

Yes you are correct that previously unknown languages are being deciphered with the help of AI. But that very thing can help us discover many unknowns.
Also remember there is a needed human element required for discovery. LIDAR with AI and other processes can only do so much. We humans have to do the heavily lifting to uncover these ancient unknowns.

Sure, for now we humans still have those needed elements as well as, you say, discovery as well as analyzing and verifying what AI says it thinks it has deciphered because it made up its own new way of understanding it. Fact checking AI would be a full-time job.

That is a very good question. Unfortunately I don't have the answer for that. Well not completely anyways.
There are up and downs to the use. A doctor or pharmacist most likely have access to information we peons don't have access to if we don't know how to look.
So I will just go on a gamble here and guess you are over the age of 40. That indicates to me that you may be unaware of the fact that HIPAA does not require all medical facilities to coordinate in a timely fashion and sometimes at all. This is a funding issue mostly and not a HIPAA issue.
They are trying there best to protect your privacy.

Never used AI.

Fact checking AI in a timely manner without using AI would be a daunting task.
As far as AI being the thing that can recognize patterns when we do not is it kinda acting like that voice in your head that says maybe you shouldn't go on this yellow. Next thing you know a car just fracking blows on by. It can see a pattern. If the car before was speeding to get by and that obviously would require attention then you would solely be focused on that particular vehicle. Sometimes people would only worry about that one vehicle, not the second or the third.

For general use such as making a shopping list based on your input of required food groups and budget based in your area and store of your choice. Then you can use it without fear of it being too intrusive, and save you a bunch of money!

Some humans have/had exceptional pattern seeing and/or deciphering skills.

When will it tell me I have exceeded my Govt recommended alcohol units? Which I generally call "lunch"?
"I'm afraid I can't do that, Dave...." Etc.
