Hmmm... remember Meta?

Reportedly, this report from Reuters: Meta is earning a fortune on a deluge of fraudulent ads, documents show

Reportedly, Meta removed these particular ads after Reuters flagged them, but in 2024, Meta earned about $7 billion from “high risk” ads - high risk scammiest of scam ads....
Quote:Meta projected 10% of its 2024 revenue would come from ads for scams and banned goods, documents seen by Reuters show. And the social media giant internally estimates that its platforms show users 15 billion scam ads a day. Among its responses to suspected rogue marketers: charging them a premium for ads – and issuing reports on ’Scammiest Scammers.’

Bombshell report exposes how Meta relied on scam ad profits to fund AI

Which seems to associate Meta funding AI with this money... although Reuters never mentioned that...
Quote:... Internally, Meta estimates that users across its apps in total encounter 15 billion “high risk” scam ads a day. That’s on top of 22 billion organic scam attempts that Meta users are exposed to daily, a 2024 document showed. Last year, the company projected that about $16 billion, which represents about 10 percent of its revenue, would come from scam ads.

“High risk” scam ads strive to sell users on fake products or investment schemes, Reuters noted. Some common scams in this category that mislead users include selling banned medical products, or promoting sketchy entities, like linking to illegal online casinos. However, Meta is most concerned about “imposter” ads, which impersonate celebrities or big brands that Meta fears may halt advertising or engagement on its apps if such scams aren’t quickly stopped.

Good read... I wonder about the bias though.

Last year they had an ad for a cool winter jacket $149.99. It was $200 at a local store. I paid the $149 plus shipping. I never received the jacket. I found out the company is not real. My credit card company wanted me to try to contact them for a credit. No luck.

My credit card company gave me the money back. The ad still ran for months. I complained and nothing was done.

There is a lot of scam advertising on Facebook, I don't like to even click on any ads, yet for some reason, the ads seem to multiply, so I have to go clean out the Ad section every month, even though I rarely go on Facebook.

I guess it is called Meta now.

I won't buy any products that I see advertised on Facebook, and rarely believe any ads I see on there because some are so scammy.

Billions of dollars in "monetized ads"...

And a demonstrated 41% "bot" population on "social" internet...

... Bots getting an AI boost now....

Does anyone think things are gonna get better with that "boost?"

Or another wave of proliferating "services" to protect us... from themselves.

Good way to drive everyone back to Brick and mortar stores when enough people get burned or scammed... Big Scam network was just broken up in Malaysia and another one in Cambodia... Chinese money backers that go so far as kidnap people to work.  Piss them off and get tortured to death or become a live organ donor according to some who managed to escape.  https://youtu.be/4KB1BggnnnI  China knows no limits to their depravity.. Not Taiwan we are speaking of the CCP idiots from mainland China.

This video is age restricted because they do not want anyone offended by real life

Same, I won’t buy off FB either.  So many scams on there now.  I’m constantly reading comments that people never received their goods.   I do EBay, Amazon and direct only.
Apparently I’m in cult now, someone here told me so.

The same thing happened to me through a Google business search maybe 15 years ago and nothing was done.

Well, the service doesn't care at all.... they are 'not liable'... good lobbying dollars spent.

Much like banks...   they get scammed, your money gets taken.  And it's your problem to fix.

Oh well....

They set the scam farm up from the start.... which is why the bot army and the scammers are here to begin with.
