China seems more interested in Taiwan.

They can be interested in more than one thing at a time.
Right now the big things they are into are Taiwan, Africa, South America.
Considering Greenlands strategic position and rare earth minerals that 
are sitting there for the taking ... I'm sure they are making an effort 
to make inroads with it.

How might Russia invade Greenland?  They can't even take neighbouring Ukraine.

I'm just reading that it may be that the Taiwanese younger generations are more interested in China, or rather they connect more culturally with China than their breakaway ancestors.

The less than fifty military personnel in Greenland are not there for "defense" per se.
They are there consulting and doing recon to develop ideas of how to better defend Greenland.
That's a direct acknowledgement of what Trump is concerned about.

That is a nice trick, but I see more of the arrogance of "noble" superiority in the intolerant smugness of liberal academia and 'high media', than in even the most vulgar of Trump supporters. In fact, as far as reasonable criticism of Trump goes, he gets much more flack from the right than the left.
