Greenland USA

"...Critics insist Greenland’s future is not Washington’s to decide. Formally, they are right. Strategically, however, that statement is comforting nonsense. In a world of rising rivalry, no great power allows vital terrain to drift into adversarial hands out of courtesy. Sovereignty is sacred until security is threatened; then it becomes negotiable. This isn’t cynicism, but the hard ledger of history."

"...Europe benefits enormously from American security guarantees, but recoils whenever Washington acts like a power rather than a charity. There is something faintly comic about NATO allies warning the U.S. against taking its own defense too seriously....European nations insist Greenland is not for sale, while quietly relying on American troops, money and missiles to keep the peace that permits such comfortable posturing. It is a bit like lecturing the fire brigade on property rights while borrowing their hoses. Principles are easier to defend when someone else pays the insurance...."

This opinion piece makes a good case for it, at least far better than Uri Geller.

This is no good case for invading Greenland.

The security  excuse Is total BS as you already have a US military  Base there,  with a treaty saying you can expand  it as much as you like.

What's in it for them?  To be a bigger target?  Better coffee?   Fresher produce?   Biggrin

I think if they could collectively say, they'd say "       " , and not add anything to it.

In a referendum in 1982, more than 75% of Guam voters chose closer relations with the US over independence...
Denmark's Greenland dilemma: Defending a territory already on its way out
"When U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio meets his Danish and Greenlandic counterparts next week, Denmark will be defending a territory that has been moving steadily away from it and towards independence since 1979....Denmark is rallying support to protect a territory whose population wants independence, and whose largest opposition party now wants to bypass Copenhagen and negotiate directly with Washington....Denmark risks exhausting its foreign policy capital to secure Greenland, only to watch it walk away afterwards."

Let the people decide who they want for a sugar daddy!
from my point of view you're all talking about legitimacy when the real 'move' is this. just think about it.

US is provoking China to make a similar move on Taiwan. Lots of questions lately why China is not using situation, while US is busy with it's Monroe doctrine, China could've attack the island because US is already doing it in their region...sort of China could've come up with their own Monroe doctrine and act on it?

I will try to predict...US will make it look like some war is happening in the south American region, and having hard time while at it, then China can fall into this plot and start the take over of Taiwan for real.

All of the motivations every other country in the world have no value, unless those people who declare Greenland a state, a sovereign nation, are "informed" it  is no longer "up to them."

Where does that conversation happen?...

Or, is Greenland now consider a 'square' on a chess board?

And how is it that "someone else" gets to decide who calls it home?

I would be kind of "put off" were I in their place.

The whole conversation objectifies a place (naturally,) but seems to exclude the people who live there.

I can't help but wonder (no presumptions here) if those who live and thrive in Greenland are supposed to not have an allegiance to the world they grew up, and live in...

It's a large and prominent factor in the disposition of all this talk of resources and strategic value, or...

Isn't it supposed to be?
