To slow down the midnight treasure hunters with backhoes.

It would take longer to dig through the concrete then to dig something up and leave over night with just dirt there.. Also, it spreads any surface load from damaging things below.
I know too much and question everything.
Does anyone know the minimum safe distance of ignorance?
Did anyone ask the monkeys how much fun the barrel actually was?

Potentially that could be the whole story right there.  What if the landowner were trying to pressure a higher price out of whoever wants to excavate?

That does happen, I suppose, but would be more likely here in America (there's shenanigans going on with some fossil digs) -- but can't speak for elsewhere.  I believe that in Egypt the government can simply declare the site to be archaeological, whether or not the owner wants to have it excavated.

Well there’s always Karahan tepe, (excuse spelling) a similar site to Gobekli and probably much more to find in the area.
There seems to be lots emerging fairly recently, currently I’m looking into these giant earthworks in south and North America, LiDAR has uncovered some sites in the jungle, as has deforestation unfortunately.

The area where they put concrete has been excavated to the bottom. There's nothing under it, and to make sure, they dug down further than the concrete supports would reach.
Byrd is right - there's nothing nefarious going on there, and excavation continues as we speak.
Jimmy Corsetti is a liar, and he made this story up for clicks and views. Even the archaeologist he cites as his source for the info called him a liar on X. The story that Corsetti made up has at its source a story about how they are beginning to spend a lot of money there for preservation.

Usually, preservation at an archaeological dig involves filling the dig back in. Imagine the lies Corsetti would make up if they followed the normal procedure for preserving the site. LOL

And, hello Byrd, if you're still around.

The best part about the "they're covering it up!" crowd is it really shows they're not actually interested in the site itself.
The DAI is still regularly conducting excavations and posting updates, barring interruptions like the earthquake for example.
It's the same as when back in the 10s they would claim that Gobekli was a forty secret no archeologist wanted to discuss.
Even though I was picking up Archaeology magazines featuring it on the cover and offering advertisements about lecture series featuring the site.

As others have mentioned there's an increasing number of sites in the Tas Tepeler culture. Which is great! There's not a huge increase in budget or man power. Which ain't.

Our history is carefully managed and curated. There is zero interest in pursuing the truth or examining things with an open mind. gobekli Tepe and other such sites, including Eygpt, obviously point to a history different to the one mainstream archeology has provided. Anything that shakes the narrative is hidden, buried or simply lies about. We won’t get the truth, ever.
