Seriously?
That is not what this is about.
Changing all those names on the backs of USA citizens is not what the English as a national language is about.  What you suggest would increase government waste.

Does this mean that you folk will now spell English correctly, like "colour" and "aluminium".
Lol

A bit more from NYT about this.

Quote:Legal experts said the order’s effects might be muted at first.

It rescinds a mandate signed by then President Bill Clinton in 2000 that required government agencies and anyone who received federal money to provide translated documents and other language services to people who speak limited English.

But unlike some restrictive English-only state laws that have been struck down by courts, Mr. Trump’s order does not require agencies to operate solely in English. They can continue to offer documents and services in other languages.

“It’s not nearly as punitive as it could be,” said Mary Carol Combs, an education professor at the University of Arizona.

The sad fact is if you don't speak English, you will be consigned to the bottom portion of the American socio-economic hierarchy. I don't think that can be changed, and I think the real issue here is children (American citizens!) growing up in this country in environments where they don't learn English fluently. Bi-lingual schooling should be a bridge, not a cul-de-sac. Otherwise we end up with culturally-isolated ethnic underclasses. Which you could argue America already has, and has had in the past, but how do we really move past that?

Ha ha...government waste.

What I see it's all about is pleasing a small percentage of his base.

I think the problem is people not feeling at home on their new country, so they try (probably without even noticing it) to avoid feeling part of their new country.
When people feel treated the same way as the natives they are more likely to accept the natives' culture.

I've been known to use "colour" ....and I use this way to write dates  3 March 2025.

Quick question:  Does England and/or Great Britain have English as an official language?

Surprisingly, no!

But Ireland does. As one of it's official languages, anyway. As does Canada.

No it's not officially.

Govt sites provide services in Welsh but English is in reality our language and I don't think there is any need to make it officially so.

You should see the extras sheet of paper I get with snail mail from my Healthcare provider....it lists about 20  languages that are supported and acknowledged.
We have food products in cans and boxes using more than one language....so far either English/Spanish or English/French.
