Embracing Ignorance

It's perfectly legitimate to say "You're not providing any data to back up your opinion."
That's just another way of saying "Why do you have that opinion?"
There's nothing wrong with wondering why someone believes a thing.

Isn't there a warp core breach you should be working on, Geordie?  Lol

No, I never insert my opinions unless asked.  I try to be as tactful as I can, however sometimes the slightest thing that pushes the persons beliefs to an uncomfortable truth they tend to rather live in ignorance than open their horizons to new information.  I'm not saying my answer / opinion is the end all be all, but it can be a spring board for the person to research further.

I'm a pretty mellow fellow overall.  I don't go out of my way to offend anyone and I'm typically difficult to anger.  Now get to that warp core!  Before I get Worf to sing you Klingon opera!  Thumbup

It is, if  I was in fact not providing any data to back my claims up. Instead I feel the term is often used to shut down the other person due to the lack of a rebuttle to the opinion.

You can't exactly say "I don't like to hear what you're saying as it does not fit into my world view.  Therefore, you need to shut up.".  I'd honestly rather have them be honest and just tell me "You know what, I don't want your opinion afterall.".

I will never open my mouth on a subject unless I feel I have enough knowledge and places to point the person towards.  As that will make me look dumb.  And I look dumb enough as it is.  Lol

What is the context? does it matter? I just feel like picking on you for no reason today

I think about this often. Limited knowledge I feel is okay if given as inspiration. There is also sharing little bits of knowledge to make overall progress on a topic amongst people. Guess it depends on how it comes across. It can however cause bandwagons or memes and go off the rails.

Waiting until you are sure and know everything is obviously safer but can also take an eternity literally and then it's no use.

difficult without context and knowing risk

The context can be anything, really. From political topics, science, astronomical or you name it.

I tend not to dwell on things like this so I need to think of a past scenario.
