When FlyersFan started this thread - it was with a simple question.
Oddly, (or not) it seems to have evoked "hateful" attitudes... I can't tell if that should tell us something about "hate" as a subject, and our ability to dissociate from it. Is it because, having to face our hatreds so plainly, makes us defensive and cranky? Or is it because we all 'remember' the feeling of 'hatred' and relive it... even just talking about it? This, of course, is all rhetorical... I don't think I can conjure an answer to that on behalf of anyone but myself.

Considering DI's topics are politically heavy, doesn't it seem most other topics always circle back to sour grapes political division and strong feelings? People are frustrated and have no outlet or recourse in real life, except here maybe that frustration is let loose, albeit sometimes in non-constructive ways and in so much as DI mods allow. What's the answer in tackling it? Talking about it here on this thread? Is it doing any good to understand it?

The term originated I believe in the 70s, used by Blacks to indicate awareness that Democrats, rather than eliminating slavery, had continued the injustice with via sharecropping, Jim Crow laws, urban ghettos, and other forms of racial discrimination. As is typical, the term was coopted by the Democrats and diluted via expansion to include a whole host of issues such as sexism and queer rights. Hence the distinction of "liberal" woke, which refers to any form of identity politics that the Democrats can use to divide people. I'm surprised you did not know this. Or are you asking rhetorically?

Let's keep it simple and on topic:
Those that abuse children and animals. I got barrels of deserved hate for those people. (11-19-2025, 08:58 AM)ANNEE Wrote: Why use the term “Liberal” WOKE? When I used the term I was referring to a particular section of the left and comparing it to a particular section of the right, nothing more. Bear in mind I said at the outset that I am apolitical and non religious. I made that distinction when referring to the left for that reason. Seeing as you are so pedantic, I will say that the term 'woke' isn't really used when referring to the right. I could just as easily have said a 'woke' Democrat. They are all much of a muchness to me. At least we have the illusion of democracy.

Then there's the whole cycle of violence thing which includes murdered parents and a stronger likelihood of being an abuser or a criminal due to the experience. It's a bit of a dilemma meeting the wrong'uns of society with utmost violence, it's evidently never stopped a thing. |
