A fun note that Harari's title is "Distinguished Research Fellow, Centre for the Study of Existential Risk". Which seems about right. I would place him at the centre of existential risk.
Don't think I could watch a full Harari lecture mate - can't put my finger on it but he definitely gives me the creeps lol.
For folks interested in his opinion Corbett once read Harari's book and reports back here - apparently we are all 'useless' and 'hackable animals'.
Regarding spiritual 'beliefs' looks like some at the WEF could have some extremely strange (and inverted) ones.
Haven't read this book yet but Bailey (and Crowley) turn up a lot in NWO research - see the year 1934 on this timeline and a 'demon spirit' called Djwahl Kuhl.
Quote:"As one might expect from a book so explicitly about the occult, the book provides information on famous occultists like John Dee, Alistair Crowley, Madame Blavatsky, Alice Bailey and Annie Besant as well as on occult organizations like the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, the Ordo Templi Orienti, the Theosophical Society and the Lucis Trust. It also discusses a raft of occultic concepts, from The Rosicrucian Enlightenment and Thelema to The Seven Rays and The Great Invocation. Even more crucially, it shows how these people and their philosophies and teachings have helped shape the work of technologists and technocrats like Alvin Toffler and William Shockley and Nick Bostrom and others who are helping to bring about the “World Brain” and the “noosphere,” which will begin “the next spiral of the journey toward becoming a planetary autotroph.”
Suffice it to say, the story of the “Fourth Industrial Revolution” and the coming planetary Great Reset are far weirder (and more sinister) than you might have imagined.

That guy is the goto debater on AI? His argument seems somewhat weak. I doubt langage is the sole factor that allowed "humans to take the world".
His title looks like a politician speech, lot of words to not say much. And then, let's simply ignore the fact that the current 'AI' can't 'recognize' all the nuance of any language, and thus can easily 'hallucinate' and starts spewing gibberish.
“If laws are made of words, then AI will take over the legal system,” he said. “If books are just combinations of words, then AI will take over books. If religion is built from words, then AI will take over religion.”
And then these guys go on tv telling normies that tinfoilers are a bunch of lunatics, well here's a pot that calls the kettle black.

And here is thought the bingo card could make the excruciating idiocy more palatable.
Instead I am just depressed how easily he can be predicted.
And if I ANYONE can predict him???
That must also be why China is swooping in with super embassies in the places we piss off. Just move for move kicking our geopolitical ass.
SINO-EU will probably be less trollish and have more respect. Yuan might be a better "world currency" than the dollar?
And I am sure China is coming full throttle with cultural sensitivity too.

So goodbye, World. Goodbye, diplomacy. Goodbye, Friends. Goodbye, Allies. Goodbye The America where "my leader" doesn't tell Canada they should be on their knees [explitive] for all we've done for them..
And now, the inertia of the world says:
Greenland is preparing for a possible invasion.
Doesn't matter if your safe space thinks it wont happen. It might be the reality of our world now. Looking like the reality.
Maybe as soon as DAVOS ends?
Seems he's made the moves to justify it in his mind now... Could be like waiting for the 2022 winter olympics to end for the "glorious" invasion to begin... maybe he'll drag it out through the World Cup? Dont know.
So... * IF * that happens, regardless of when, play it forward for me into worst case scenarios...
How the hell does his party win any elections supporting his war? It is like administration suicide unless he's planning on ending or suspending democracy (some how) too.
When does he declare martial law over the swarms of protests over our country's EXTREMELY UNSUPPORTED (85%+) military actions?
When comes the suppression of free speech, detracting opinion, and possibly even elections over the massively unpopular invasion and the unfavorable opinion it causes
Cant wait for the "irony" of massive "no kings" protests in support of Denmark and The EU, and for when that basic little deflection device of "but they have a king" is all that is needed for the cognitive dissonance of supporting a tyrant undoing our place in the world order for himself, and in CHINA'S FAVOR.

Hammers see nails everywhere....
And the continued approach of addressing "AI" as if it were real just confounds me.
Every expert in the world talks about this thing... "AI"
Where is it?
They are writhing and flailing about a thing someone has yet to reveal... how is that?
AI has not yet been achieved.
The LLM/algorithm ' appearances' are a great distraction... but that is not AI.
All this impending AI doom is just porn... based upon technocrat wet-dreams... the same technocrats that haven't a clue what it means to lead 'people.' Their visions are table-top games... ever notice?
The engineers now are trying to set up a "process" to "imply" their "edicts"have authority...
and only "their" so-called "AI" gets to vote...
I have yet to see. or hear anyone who can point at something and say "here is AI" and have it be a factual statement, rather than an opinion or perspective.
There is no 'almost' in achieving "AI." (similar to... you're never "almost" pregnant.)

That the most satirical aspect of all this, the title : "An Honest Conversation on AI and Humanity"
It would have been 'honest' it they had used LLM instead of "AI", but oh well! I guess "AI" has a more dramatic tone, it makes the 'message' sound important.
So now it's authors that are gonna 'debate' the "great issues of humanity"? What isn't a play nowadays, I wonder?

You are in full-on "old man yells at cloud" mode on this one, Max. The consensus is that it has. Or at least, what there is now (agentic LLMs) is validly called AI. It's a bit of an existential conundrum, by contrast highlighting that we in fact don't really have any certainty of the existence of Natural Intelligence (NI), as perhaps what passes for public discourse would exemplify.
So you're in the territory of those who say the Presidential Debates aren't "debates", or the process through which our politican's gain power isn't "democracy". You're wrong; it is—because they say so. So we must too. To disagree removes one from the discourse.
And as to what these "AI" can achieve? Many criticize it as a facsimile, an imitation, an uncreative "good enough" churn of unintentional pseudo-quality. But again, couldn't one also say the same of culture in the 21st century? Many do. So perhaps it's sufficient, and in it's sufficiency, becomes the only reality. Don't worry, soon enough you'll be asking "was it every any different?"

Well, well, well, one could indeed notice the somewhat 'logical consequence' of consumerism, that is, quantity over quality.
Music seems to have fallen at the rise of the "music industry". Change music by anything else and the result stays the same. "Appearance" is the foundation of nowadays 'culture', at least in 'developed countries'.
However, let's not forget the constant efforts from marketing to 'induce' a need to 'possess' the next "new, shiny, [insert a thing here]" with subliminal imageries and speeches. Again, all "appearance", not much content, but no worry, there'll be a another product to crave for in the next few days, and so on.
As far as the apple tree is concerned, there's probably not much difference between a worm and a human...

So after all this... in a matter of hours... minutes even.
He walks out of a meeting with the NATO general appeased because apparently Veruca got access to the golden goose mines. No more invasion. No more tariffs. A framework for NATO to [whatever] the Arctic together.
While im really really happy he used my reaction for leverage again, it be nice, for a change, if he'd stop using "Rule #17" so damn much...

Because now there's pages of pages of me getting used by his suspended terror again.
Why does watching this President lead feel more like being in a relationship with someone who is abusive?
Gotta stop letting him use me like that.
So did we get our freaking mining rights deal and can this all end now?
