Daily McCartney
#1
So I recently posted in the thread “Songs that touch your heart.”

The one artist that really, really tugs on my heartstrings is Sir Paul McCartney. I have a collection of Macca music (not including Beatles tracks) that spans 66 albums and 984 songs. Would you believe I still only fall in the category of ‘mildly obsessed?’

But whatever I’m not made of money and resources so I do what I can. The most serious collectors are ones that were present during recording sessions and/or are employees of MPL, or else just rabid fans with a deep, deep checking account.

I digress.

Anyways I feel I have enough tracks and fandom to make Paul McCartney his own thread. Actually one of the last threads I made on the old site was about my collection, so I’ll revitalize it here.

I don’t expect views, listens, or posts. This will probably be my own little dusty corner of DI. So be it!

But let me tell you just why I love Paul so much and why his music is my most powerful energizer. You know I’ve had cancer as a teen. You know I’ve incurred permanent hearing loss from chemotherapy. Thank Babaji, I can still hear well enough to enjoy music.

When I underwent my Second (of 8) high-dose chemo regimens I lost my hearing. Suddenly! I went to sleep one night just dandy and woke the next morning with permanent nerve damage to my auditory nerves. Devastating!

One of my old friends knew I was basically living in hospitals. He knew I was just getting into The Beatles and bought me the Anthology documentary DVDs to watch in my isolation ward. Well…when you’re undergoing surgery and chemo for months and years at a time, there isn’t much to do but read books, watch movies and television, and of course listen to music.

My mother also introduced me to Wings when the Wingspan: Hits & History compilation came out—also during my cancer treatment days.

As you know, part of The Beatles story involves their trip to India and meditation practice with The Maharishi. Yes, I did the whole TM thing and more. It just made sense at the time; it spoke to me.

While I don’t practice TM anymore (I developed my own superior methods in time,) I still look to Paul as not only my favorite Beatle, but as my inspiration, my role model, and as my rock.

Silly huh?

Well he’s not the most perfect human being by any means, but we all fall short next to the glory of God. However, beyond his music I admire him for his activism in things like vegetarianism, animal cruelty awareness etc. I also adore his relationship with Linda, which was more cohesive and wholesome than John & Yoko in my opinion.

Even after 20 years, I still look to Paul as my shining light in the world. He is a treasure, and I will cry when he passes. Thank you Paul for lifting me, and many others, into the heights of joy you have inspired.

He was an insecure workaholic, and his body of work shows it. He has probably produced more music than any other artist I can think of. I also admire that he just did what he wanted, even if not all of his music was favored. You can tell he always had fun.

So indulge me with this thread as I will periodically post what I feel are some of my favorite tracks from Paul. Don’t worry, I have a Shit List ready too because he has definitely made music ranging from brilliant, to mediocre, to saccharine, to what the hell was he thinking?!

My collection includes a lot! And I would like to share some of the deep cuts I have collected, as well as the fan favorites.

Here we go. This is Daily McCartney! (I won’t actually post daily.)

Please share some of your favorite McCartney tracks and memories if you’d like. I will start with my favorite and most listened to tracks. I honestly tried to get this initial list smaller but there’s just so many gems!

In no particular order, here are the best:

Ram is probably my favorite album BTW, bookending with Electric Arguments my other favorite.

This one is kinda cheating as Same Love and I Don't Know have the same intro! Not the first time Paul ripped off his own music.
