well, her multi million dollar campaign, that hijacked many YouTube videos, was only listened to for the minimal 5 seconds it had to be listened to by most.

So now that it's cool to make fun of her, is that seriously what a South Dakota accent sounds like? A slightly diverged rural Minnesota one?  Like the movie Fargo?

I think she's somehow extra annoying. Is she deliberately doing up the folksiness, or is that standard? 

I always thought South Dakota had the Midwest corn-adjacent rancher drawl, but Noem does the Scandanavian long O vowel shift.

I actually just looked into it.

As of March 2026, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem is facing intense scrutiny over a roughly $200 million to $220 million taxpayer-funded advertising campaign she spearheaded to promote immigration restrictions and border security. 

The controversy centers on allegations that the campaign was a "vanity project" that boosted her own name recognition, utilizing "no-bid" contracts awarded to firms with close ties to her political associates.

So they're saying she did the ad campaign for selfish vanity reasons, not border security.  While I thought that was this administration's standing orders, I guess only Prez is allowed to do the overtly self-promoting crony stuff.

Or they just threw her under the immigration bus and are trying to distance themselves from sanctioning the campaign by saying it was a rogue endeavor.
