Burning the USA Flag

Luckily, there is no way to enforce it. Cops could make the arrests, but I don't see how a magistrate could charge someone with no law to back it.

Executive orders can give directive to the federal government, but not create law.

It was clearly aimed to put this in front of the Supreme Court again. I think the scarier thing is if SCOTUS capitulates to Presidential directive on something that is obviously aimed at challenging something deemed constitutional.

Lately, we've been seeing a lot of political tit for tat, I don't want to see the next arena be who can loophole the constitution. It was intended for it to be extremely hard to change the constitution on purpose.

Sorry folks, been busy today.  Haven't had time to read through all replies.

I read through them.   Lots of differing opinions, all of which have merit.

I wholly support people burning the American flag in protest.  I think it is their right.   When I was younger, people burning the U.S. flag sometimes got their asses kicked for them.  I do not support kicking the asses of people expressing their 1st Amendment Rights, however, it happens.  For some people like myself, the U.S. flag represents a symbol that should not ever, never be disrespected, and so I cannot fault them for taking stern measure against people who wish to sully it.

I can only tell you that I wouldn't allow it to be done in my presence.  I would likely be forced to break the law.

I suspect he is also FAFO bunny.  Which, of course, would not be so cute.

I hear you.  We aren't forced to choose.   We can be both, or neither.   Tongue
