Apparently, the beach does have permanent warning signs.

With a flag system, where you are only allowed to swim between red and yellow flags.

But i would imagine those might be somewhat hard to see in the dark.

Especially if you are drunk or unaware they even exist...

The timelines are questionable.

"Emergency services were called at around 5.45am to concerns for the welfare of three women in the sea off Brighton. Three bodies were later recovered."

There is no way of knowing when they arrived there and the time that had lapsed before emergency services were called and as to when their bodies were recovered.
